Elizabethton, Tenn. (Mon, May 8, 2017)– After scoring a hard-fought unanimous decision win on the weekend for Valor Fights, David Robins spoke with FightBookMMA before he competes in the UMMAF National Tournament in Elizabethton, Tenn., May 26-28, LIVE on FloCombat.
Now that the dust has settled, what are your overall thoughts on how this weekend played out?
The show was great. The crowd was really large, and they really enjoyed the fights. Tennessee didn’t do as well as I had hoped — Kentucky did win, unfortunately — but overall it was a great night. There were some awesome, back-and-forth fights, and I was really happy and proud to be a part of it.
Were you disappointed to not get the finish?
I was, for sure. I underestimated how tough my opponent was going to be. In the second round, I hit him with 12 undefended punches, then eight knees to the head, and he just looked at me and smiled (laughs). I was hitting him with everything I had in me, thinking what it would take to put him down. I’ve put people away with way softer shots, and this guy is looking at me, smiling (laughs). It was a good fight; he was a very tough kid.
Did you learn anything this weekend?
Oh yeah, I learned a lot about what aspects of my game have to be improved upon. I know what areas are weak for me and what areas I need to focus on in the gym, which was the biggest takeaway for me. I also learned to never underestimate my opponent.
How excited are you to build on this momentum at the UMMAF National Tournament later this month in Elizabethton, Tenn.?
Oh, I love it. We’re three weeks out now, and we’re just going to keep doing what we’re doing. I took a day off as my rest day and I’m right back to the grind. I’m happy to have gotten a fight in before the UMMAF National Tournament. I’m not banged up at all — just a few scratches — so I couldn’t ask for a better night.
