This Friday night, AFC is back in Des Moines, Iowa putting on yet, again another potent, high caliber fight card. The Co Main Event will feature long time Des Moines Bad Boy and always a fan favorite Cory Simpson vs Bob (White Trash) Gilmore, in Gilmores Pro debut. Simpson, trained by Josh Neer (13x UFC veteran) since Simpsons MMA career began at age 16. By 18 Simpson had racked up at 26-0 record as a Ammy fighter at the infamous Toad Holler Night Club. Now a long time Pro, I have witnessed the best Cory Simpson ever in, his last 2 bouts, both for AFC. Simpson, since back from a long hiatus, has won 4 straight, all finishes. Last December, Simpson was unleashing a furious ground n pound, when the ref dq’ed him for grabbing the fence, for what seemed like a 1/10th of a second, without a single warning, the ref stopped it. To be completely honest I feel that was a horrible call by the ref, and there is no way I can see how that fight shoulda been a legitimate dq. Furthermore, Simpson was basically putting his opponent away, at the time the ref stopped it, as I remember it, Simpson hit the gas and went straight Gorrila, on his downed opponent. I thot it was a TKO for Simpson initially, then later discovered the actuality of the situation. As a result, I’m calling that dq loss, a TKO victory for Simpson as anyone in their right mind will agree, holding that fence for a 1/10 of a second did not aid Simpson in anyways, that would’ve changed the outcome of that December bout, period. Just my opinion, and many others. Simpson has dialed in some needed patience recently, which seems to be the difference to me. Instead of forcing fights as much, or forcing l the action as Simpson has always been known for, he has been fighting very patient, very smart lately. Everyone knows an explosion is inevitable at some point in a Cory Simpson fight, now days though his opponents are really guessing much more now, to when that explosion will occur. Simpson seemed to intentionally, take the role of the snake charmer right before TKO’ing his last opponent. When he decides to mash the throttle, it’s usually done pretty quick via TKO/KO. Simpsons last 2 bouts I witnessed were devastating ground in pound victories, as he preparing to make it 5 straight wins.

Gilmore, formerly a very experienced Ammy fighter with over 20 plus fights, will make his Pro debut Friday Night. Win or lose, I have to give Gilmore huge credit, he’s got balls of steel, accepting this fight, and I love him for that. Known for not promoting his own fights much, Gilmore is “no frills”. He don’t care if there’s camera’s, mics, or media, he doesn’t wanna talk. He just wants to fight. Known also for getting wild during fights, Gilmore loves to stand and bang, exactly the same as Simpson. This fight has energy, and pride, written all over it. This will not end in a decision.

When I asked Simpson about his perspective of this fight and opponent, he had a lot to share.

Simpson: I don’t really know alot about Gilmore. I got into some trouble and had to take a 4 year break. I think that’s when he had been doing his thang. From what I hear, he’s wild and likes to bring it! So, i’m excited, that’s what I’m looking for! I guarantee he hasn’t fought a MF like me yet tho. This fight will be at 170, down from my regular 185/180 weights. This will be my first fight at 170 since I been back. My last few have been “catch weights”. I made a 40lb cut for this bout, and I feel even better! I’m gunnin for a 1st round KO or TKO. I’ve finished my last 4 opponents, so I’m gonna make this 5! I’ve been training hard, with my man Josh Neer at Elite Edge MMA and strength and conditioning at Training for Warrior’s. I’m hopin another w will bump me up to something bigger! Much love to AFC, Josh Neer, Matt Rider, and EVERYONE that supports the Hustle and is Rockin with me and to all my sponsors: Clippernomics, Hubble Motors, Eblen Bail bond, Auto Outlet, Triple Double, Northside Auto body, Accel, Paint Des Moines, Million Motors, Loyalty Love Co., Taste or Italy, Cabrera’s Auto Body, Gutter Solutions, Quick Fix Tire, Daniels Roofing, One Shot Ryders, SeaFood Trap.
