IMMAF President, Kerrith Brown, said:

“The 2016 IMMAF World Championships at UFC Fight Week has set a new benchmark for Amateur MMA tournaments, with over 200 athletes participating from 34 different countries and the level of competition skyrocketing on previous years. The event also enjoys an extended international broadcast platform in 2016, giving exposure to IMMAF tournaments across a larger fanbase than ever before.

“The Africa Open brings the IMMAF Championships to another continent making it more accessible to athletes within the region, thus opening it up to a greater pool of talent. For athletes travelling from further afield, the Africa Open provides further opportunity to compete in just 2 months time, and South Africa is an attractive tourist destination with plenty to experience outside the arena of competition. Participation in IMMAF events gains points both for athletes and teams in the IMMAF World Amateur MMA Rankings. The Board and I warmly invite Amateur athletes world over to apply through their national federation.

MyNextMatch founder, Oner Avara, said:

“The World Championships have been a huge success – the best ever IMMAF event to date with more than 200 participating athletes – and we believe we will see yet more success in South Africa this August and September.

From an IMMAF point of view, the tournament management process is going from strength to strength. From a MyNextMatch point of view, a long and fruitful partnership has only just begun. We would encourage as many countries and athletes as possible to sign up for what promises to be a thrilling Africa Open.”
