2016 IMMAF EUROPEAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

(London. 3 November 2016) 180 competitors from 30 national teams have registered for the 2016 IMMAF European Open Championships of Amateur MMA in Prague from 22 to 26 November.

Hosted by the Czech Mixed Martial Arts Association (MMAA), the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s nation vs. nation tournament plays out in 2 rings across 5 days under IMMAF Amateur Rules.

All registered competitors are now subject to vetting and clearance by IMMAF and Safe MMA.

First time nations participating in the European Open include Estonia, USA, Russia, Pakistan, Lebanon, Spain and South Africa. Lebanon presents the second female from the Middle East to compete under IMMAF, while Russia brings the largest female delegation of 5 athletes. Meanwhile, Sweden brings the biggest count of returning IMMAF World and Continental Open medallists.

Standout return medallists include:

  • Sweden‘s golden trio – Cornelia Holm (Women’s Bantamweight), Gabriella Ringblom (Women’s Flyweight) and Irman Smajic (Heavyweight), all of whom won Silver in the 2015 European Open before claiming Gold at the 2016 IMMAF Worlds.

Ringblom is IMMAF’s most decorated veteran with the following accolades: 2014 World Silver, 2015 World Gold, 2015 European Silver, 2016 World Gold and 2016 Africa Gold.

Other returning Swedish medallists include middleweight Rostem Akman (2015 European Gold), Serdar Altas (2015 World Silver, 2016 Africa Gold) and Renato Vidovic (2015 European Bronze)
