Bellator147 Thomson Vs Villaseca Recap

Saturday December 5, 2015– Live from the San Jose St Event center in San Jose California Bellator MMA made their return to the Bay Area with some home town talent taking center stage in the main event. Top lightweight contender and new comer to Bellator Josh Thomson took on Pablo Villaseca. Thomson looked to make it two in a row in front of his home town, and Villaseca wanted to show the MMA world not to overlook him. In the co Main event a potential title shot was on the line as Daniel Weichel took on Georgi Karakhanyan. Weichel wants another crack at the title, and Karakhanyan knows if he gets a shot at Straus he will not lose. Patricky Pitbull takes on Derek Anderson for the 2nd time, and a full slate of prelims. San Jose was pumped and ready for action.

In the first prelim bout a catchweight fight, San Jose hometown boy James Terry (16-8) took on Nick Barnes (9-1), after an early flurry by Terry, Barnes calms the storm and gets the 1st round submission victory. Next up in the featherweight division A.J. Mckee (2-0) took on J.T. Donaldson (1-0), in the 1st round a deadly knee to the body seals the victory for Mckee, very impressive victory. Next up in the middleweight division Brandon Hester (2-0) took on Idris Wasi (1-2), after three rounds the winner by unanimous decision and still undefeated Brandon Hester. Next up in the bantamweight division, hometown boy and undefeated fighter Gabriel Carrasco (6-0) took on Khomkrit Niimi (6-7), a dominating performance for the hometown boy, and still undefeated San Jose own Gabriel Carrasco. As the main card kicks off, a catchweight fight between Virgil Zwicker (14-4-1) and Brian Rogers (11-8), after both brawlers battled it out, a 2nd round arm triangle seals the win for Brian Rogers. Next up in the lightweight division Adam Piccolotti (6-0) took on Mario Soto (6-1), a 2nd round submission finish for the winner and still undefeated Adam Piccolotti. Next up in the lightweight division Patricky Pitbull (14-6), is trying to make a name for himself in the lightweight division, as he took on the surging Derek Anderson (12-2), a steady first round from both fighters, a lot of clean strikes and amazing grappling exchanges. The 2nd round was dominated by Pitbull with his sharp strikes and hard kicks, Anderson was overwhelmed. After 3 rounds the winner by split decision Derek Anderson.

Co Main Event Featherweight Divison
Daniel Weichel (35-9) Vs Georgi Karakhanyan (24-4-1)

The co main event had more than just a win on the line, but a potential title fight was up for grabs. Weichel who recently fought for the title and lost is itching to get another crack at the gold. Karakhanyan is more than ready to get his shot at the gold and while being overlooked in this fight he is ready to prove the world wrong. The 1st round starts out with both fighters showing respect for each others skills, some light jabs and some kicks being exchanged. Weichel stuffs a takedown attempt from Karakhanyan, as the 1st round wore on a lot of combinations were thrown by both fighters, but as the round came to a finish a slap by Karakhanyan may have woke up Weichel. The 2nd round starts out picking up where it left off in the 1st, as both fighters continue to throw and land punches. Weichel continues to land the majority of the blows but Karakhanyan is pressing and staying right in Daniel face. The 2nd round comes to a finish Weichel is landing the majority of his strikes, as the strikes continue to land Weichel is starting to loosen up. The 3rd round starts off with Weichel putting on the majority of the offense really starting to wear down Karakhanyan. A late 3rd round flurry by Karakhanyan wasn’t enough as Weichel continued with the heavy pressure to finish off the round. After three rounds the winner by unanimous decision Daniel Weichel. A big win for Weichel this could line him up to be next for the new champion Daniel Straus.

Main Event Lightweight Division
Josh Thomson Vs Pablo Villaseca

The main event had a lot on the line as hometown hero Josh Thomson taking on a very hot fighter in Pablo Villaseca. Josh coming off a big win at Dynamite, is looking to make it two in a row and possibly land a shot at the title. Villaseca is looking to show all of Bellator that he making a surge up the ranks, and hopefully land himself a title shot down the line and a win over Thomson will help his cause. The 1st round starts with Thomson bringing a lot of pressure, an early takedown has Thomson in control, Thomson attempts for an arm bar finish but Villaseca works it back to stand up. Villaseca works the clench and gets the takedown. Thomson quickly back to his feet works it to the clench and a low blow stops the action. The fight resumes and a big single leg takedown landed by Thomson leads to the end of the 1st round. The 2nd round begins with both fighters throwing bombs, as Thomson takes Villaseca down the ground and pound begins. Thomson attempts the arm triangle but Villaseca won’t let Thomson pass. Thomson continues to try to gain side control after it fails, Thomson continues the ground and pound and this time it’s with a furry. After Villaseca couldn’t defend himself anymore the referee calls for the stop and that’s it. Thomson is 2-0 in Bellator and both of them coming with finishes. Very impressive for the hometown hero.

As we close things out here in San Jose, the Bay Area fight fans got a lot of amazing fights and some brutal KO finishes, we learned that there are some top fighters climbing the ranks in their respective divisions. Both winners in the main and co main event could have a title shot down the line. San Jose came out and cheered as their hometown hero dominated and got the win. As a little preview, after the fight Thomson calls out Chandler, but also will take a shot at Ill Will Brooks, either way what a main event either of those fights would be.
