Friday May 6, 2016— BellatorMMA makes its return to San Jose for a huge card that has a lot of title contentions involved. Outside of the big main event this card was surrounded by a handful of news. First off Bellator featherweight Jordan Parsons who was scheduled to fight on the May 14th card, tragically lost his life in a hit and run accident. Parsons was out for a walk when he was struck by a silver Range Rover, after the accident the driver fled the scene and left Parsons for dead. After losing his leg and being in a coma Parsons tragically lost his life. A rising star in all of MMA and even a better person tragically lost his life.

As tragic as the news is the card must go on, another change to the card was announced as the co main event was canceled due the injury to Josh Thomson. The original co main event was supposed to be a light weight battle with former champion Michael Chandler and Josh Thomson and the winner of this fight was pretty much set in stone for the next shot at champion Will Brooks, but with the fight being scrapped both fighters will have rescheduled fights down the line. Also on the card in the prelims portion heavyweights kick things off Sean Tucker (0-0) will take on James Chapman (0-0), Middleweight bout between Andres Alcantar (3-0) and Nick Pica (5-0), Featherweight bout between Anthony Taylor (0-1) and Victor Jones (0-1), Welterweight bout between Martin Sano (4-1) and Danasabe Mohammed (3-0), Flyweight bout between Steven Gruber (5-1) and Josh Paiva (7-1), welterweight bout between Doyle Childs (2-1) and Sam Spengler (8-5), women’s strawwwight bout between Jaimeleme Nievara (3-1) and Stephanie Frausto (2-3), a catchweight bout between Darren Uyenoyama (10-5) and Alvin Cacdac (16-11), Jorge Acosta (1-1) will take on Joshua Hardwick (0-0), bantamweight bout between Jermiah Labiano (8-3) and Josh San Diego (6-1), in the featured prelim bout Mark Dickman (10-2) will take on Thomas Diagne (5-5-1). Switching to the main card the weltweights kick things off as Evangelista Santos (21-16) will take on Saad Awad (18-7), a welterweight bout between Rick Reger (7-1) Andre Fialho (6-0), lightweight bout between Ray Wood (7-1) and Adam Piccolotti (7-0), the co-main event between Josh Appelt (7-2) and Sergei Kharitonov (23-5), and the main event in the light heavyweight division King Mo Lawal (19-4) will take on Phil Davis (14-3).

The main event features two of the best light heavyweights in all of MMA, King Mo and Phil Davis were set to fight back at Dynamite 1 back in San Jose but due to injury King Mo had to pull out and Phil Davis went on to win the Light heavyweight tournament. Now with the rematch set the winner of this fight should be next in line for a title shot. King Mo is riding another big win streak as he has won 7 straight including winning a tournament in Japan for Rizin. Mo is well-known for his ability to turn the lights out on any fighter but against Davis he will have to depend on all of his strengths including his cardio. If Mo tries to look for the early KO then it could be a long day, but if Mo can push the fight along and keep a steady flurry of shots he might be able to keep Davis from landing a takedown. Phil Davis is an elite wrestler who can take the best of them down at any moment, and with a good striking game and long legs to land kicks he can end the fight at any moment. Davis won his first two fights in Bellator by submission and KO but prior to that he was getting inconsistent in the UFC. With the fresh start in Bellator Davis had hit the ground running, If Davis tries to trade with Mo it won’t end well but if Davis tries to get the fight to the ground and use his kicks he can keep Mo back and shut down his strongest strengths. Both guys know that a win will put him in line for a title shot and especially if it come in a finish. A war between two of the best light heavyweights in the world, make sure you don’t miss a second because this fight is going to be one for the ages.

This card is stacked with great fights and at the end of the day all fight fans will tune in and been blown away. All though there was tragedy, well know that Pretty Boy Parsons will be watching down on all of his fellow fighters.
