Bellator156 Galvao vs. Dantas Recap & Results

Friday June 17, 2016 FightBookMMA was Live from the Save Mart Center in Fresno California Bellator MMA made their return with a stacked card that was topped off with a rematch for the bantamweight championship of the world. Marcos Galvao looked for redemption on the man who took his title in their first bout. But after Eduardo Dantas lost the title he took for Galvao the challenger found himself scratching and crawling for another crack at gold. In the co main event a welterweight showdown between Chidi Njokuani and Thiago Jambo has a lot of title implications with the division wide open anything can happen. Former champion Brandon Halsey makes his return, and he former champ is looking to mow down anyone in his way for another crack at the gold. Chris Honeycutt takes on Mikkel Parlo to kick off the main card and a full slate of prelims to get the card kicked off. A full Night of action from Hot Fresno.

The 1st prelims bout was in a catchweight bout as CJ Keith (8-4) took on the Blackzilains own Carrington Banks (5-0), Carrington Banks controlled the fight from start to finish a well executed win. Winner: Carrington Banks by Unanimous Decision. Next up in the middleweight division AJ Matthews (8-5) took on Ben Reiter (17-1-1), A back and forth slug fest at the begging of the fight but after weathering the storm Mathews was able to start to take over with some great ground work and some mean ground and pound. Winner: Ben Reiter by Unanimous Decision.

The Main Card kicks off in the middleweight division as hometown hero Chris Honeycutt (8-1) took on Mikkel Parlo (13-3), a lot of action throughout, Chris Honeycutt was able to do enough to get redemption and earn a win in front of his hometown. Winner: Chris Honeycutt by Unanimous Decision. Next up in the middleweight division former champion Brandon Halsey (9-2) took on John Salter (12-3), Salter started off the fight with a right that busted open Halsey, but as the fight wore on Halsey was able to sustain the damage and get back into the fight but a big head kick that lands by Salter rocks the former champion. The fight goes to the ground and Salter sinks in a beautiful triangle choke and that’s all she wrote. Winner: John Salter by Submission Round 1. Co Main event is in the welterweight division as Chidi Njokuani (15-4) took on Thiago Jambo (18-5), A great back and forth fight that could have gone either way. In the 3rd round a huge body kick Chidi Njokuani floors Jambo and nasty ground and pound follows and that was all she wrote. Winner: Chidi Njokuani by TKO Round 3.

Main Event Bantamweight Title
C Marcos Galvao (17-7-1) Vs Eduardo Dantas (18-4)

The rematch was set in place and ready go as champion Marco Galvao attempted to gain revenge on his Eduardo Dantas who won their first fight by TKO. The 1st round from the start was a feeling out process, the champion was able to put on a bit of pressure to keep Dantas back. Though the 1st round may have gone to Galvao, Dantas came out in the 2nd round throwing volume of punches that at one time had Glavao rocked and a steady flow of leg kicks are starting to swell up the leg of the champion. At the end of round two Galvao was able to weather the storm and keep Dantas honest. Through two rounds its 1-1. The 3rd round began Dantas continues to bring the offense, with a significant amount of strikes landing and the constant leg kicks that are really starting to swell up the leg of the champ the challenger is starting to pull away. Galvao through three rounds hasn’t tried for a takedown and his striking defense isn’t helping up to this point. The 4th starts out with the champion attempting his 1st takedown of the night but great takedown defense by the challenger keeps the champion on his feet. Dantas continues with the steady strikes that continue to find a home on the right eye of the champion. With another big 4th round for the challenger, Galvao will need a finish to keep his title. The 5th and final round begins and the champion needs a finish, but the relentless challenger who stuck to his same game plan since round one continues to land significant strikes. Galvao never got comfortable and couldn’t find a home on anything he threw. Dantas came ready and stuck to a strong striking and kick game that had the champion rocked plenty of times. A nice title reign for Marcos Galvao, but the former champion has regained his crown.
