Bermane Stiverne vs. Deontay Wilder: Result & Video Highlights

Tuesday January 20, 2015On Saturday January 17, 2015 we witnessed an exciting Boxing match between Bermane Stiverne vs. Deontay Wilder. They fought in front of a crowd of 8,453 this was the first heavyweight title fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. As we all remember this is the same venue were Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield’s ear in 1997 both of these fighters were sitting ringside.

On that night history was made, Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder fought past the fourth round for the first time in his career, and he became the first American to win the heavyweight title in nearly a decade.

Wilder spoke to RingTV.com on Sunday and stated the following:

“I’m just coming from the hospital not too long ago and got my right hand X-rayed and stuff, and it’s fractured. I had fractured my right hand in the third or fourth round of the fight, so I was fighting with one hand, and, truth to be told, I was fighting with one eye, as well, because I injured my left eye the day before the fight. I had the band laced up to my foot, and it slipped from under my foot and went straight into my eye,” said Wilder of an exercise that resulted in a stretching band striking him in that eye.

“I laid on the ground for about 15 minutes and couldn’t open my eye. There was a lot of swelling and I couldn’t open my eye. When I could open my eye, all I could see was black and white dots. I had to get my doctor up there and we got some eye drops medicine that helped me out to the point where I could see just a little bit. So I really had one arm and one eye. It was still cloudy for me to see, but I had a warrior mentality and my will and my heart was going to carry me all the way through.”

Wilder shouted to the ringside press, “Who can’t box? Who can’t box?”

After the fight he stated the following:

‘I answered a lot of questions tonight,’ he said. ‘We knew we could go 12 rounds, we knew we could take a punch. All the hard work is done in camp. Did I look like I had fun? I really did.

‘There wasn’t a better opponent than Bermane Stiverne. I wanted to prove I could do it and I did that. I don’t want anyone to doubt me anymore.

‘I thought I was going to knock him out in four rounds but when I saw he could take a great punch, I knew I was in for a long fight.

‘I want to bring excitement to the heavyweight division. I want to fight four times a year. I’m ready whenever.’

Stiverne stated that he was not at his best:

‘It wasn’t my night,’ he said. ‘I didn’t feel 100 per cent. I just couldn’t cut the ring off or move my head like I usually do.

‘I congratulate him but I’ve got to go back and learn from my mistakes.

‘I was trying to throw combinations of four and five punches but I got through two of them.

‘I was flat. This wasn’t me at all. I wasn’t able to do what I wanted to do.’
