Cage Warriors announce fights for November 12 – ‘CW Unplugged’
Friday, October 21, 2016— Cage Warriors Fighting Championship announces several bouts for their November 12 event – a night when the promotion will join forces with BT Sport to host ‘CW Unplugged’ live from the broadcaster’s studios in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.
The event sees the return of Chris Fishgold (16-1-1) paired with former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ contender Nic Herron-Webb (19-7) in his second defense of the Cage Warriors lightweight title. His teammate, the newly crowned featherweight champion Paddy Pimblett (12-1) will hope to squeeze a win from his bout with Julian Erosa (17-3) another TUF contender.
Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan announced the headline bouts live on BT Sport last weekend at CWFC 79 from Newport, Wales. The championship contests will be 5 x 5 minute rounds.
Joining them on the card is a welterweight scrap between two Englishmen Matt Inman (18-8) and Che Mills (16-8-0-3nc). Mills, a former UFC competitor and veteran of European MMA has had just one bout this year and that was scored a no contest. Matt Inman is a seven bout Cage Warriors veteran and returns to the promotion for the first time in two years. With 16 wins inside the distance, Inman’s a technical and skilful all-rounder and will demand the very best of Mills in this pairing.
Middleweights muscle in on the action in the shape of Frenchman Faycal Hucin (11-3) and Athens based Andreas Michailidis (7-2). Hucin last fought for Cage Warriors in 2013 (CWFC 4-1) at Fight Night 9 in Amman, Jordan. That evening he clocked up a second round TKO victory at the expense of Che Mills. He can bang with the best but his success is predominantly on the canvas.
His opponent Andreas Michailidis is coming off two victories, which include a TKO win over Arbi-Madaev in Grozny, Chechnya in October 2015, and a decision win over the powerful striker Ion Pascu in the UAE earlier this year. Pascu defeated Jack Marshman in 2013 and went the distance with another former Cage Warriors middleweight champion Jack Hermansson at CWFC Fight Night 11 in April 2014.
A light heavyweight pairing between Frenchman Johan Romming (9-5-1) and Norwegian Kenneth Bergh (4-0) will also feature on the card. The 29-year old Romming will be looking for a win after taking two years out from competition while 27-year old Bergh will be looking to maintain his unblemished record.
A second light heavyweight bout is still to be matched but it will feature Karl Moore (6-1), his opponent will be announced in the next few days.
In a featherweight contest between two fighters making their Cage Warriors’ debuts Nathan Sparks (3-4) will face Lloyd Manning (1-0). Sparks who hails from Kent in the southern England has yet to go the distance in his professional career with all of his battles ending in submission. Manning made an impressive professional debut, tasting victory in just under a minute of his bout with a win via TKO.
Two flyweights return to Cage Warriors in a contest between Englishmen Shaj Haque (8-2) and Sam Creasey (7-0). Haque has fought for the promotion on six occasions (CWFC 5-1) and all but one of Haque’s professional wins have come via decision – an indication of the high calibre of his opponents, which include Ronnie Mann, Damien Rooney and Martin McDonagh. Creasey will make his third outing for Cage Warriors this year and will look to continue his seven-fight winning streak to maintain his unblemished record.
Another middleweight bout on the card was previously announced online between Irishman John Redmond (7-12) and Englishman Leeroy Barnes (15-16). Both have attacking styles and neither play it safe, which always makes for an entertaining contest. Redmond rides a two-fight winning streak while Barnes had a three-fight streak snapped at CWFC 78 in Liverpool in a decision loss against Swede Victor Cheng.
CW Unplugged will stream live on BT Sport, UFC Fight Pass and Viasat in Scandinavia.
