Cavalheiro plans to call out champion Harris after Brave 13
Rodrigo Cavalheiro is riding high after his explosive Brave Combat Federation debut. Back in April, the veteran Welterweight brutally knocked out Alessandro Gambulino in the first round to set up a clash with Karl Amoussou, at Brave 13: Europe Evolution, set for June 9th, in Belfast. Now, the Brazilian plans another devastating performance to move forward to a title fight next.
Cavalheiro was set to make his debut back in August of last year against Carlston Harris. However, the Guianese was bumped up to fight for the inaugural Welterweight championship on the eve of Brave 8 and won the belt against England’s Carl Booth. Now, the Noguchi Team fighter wants to settle things with the new champion.
“After I’m done with Amoussou I want to call out Carlston Harris for a title fight. He just said he was going to watch my fight so I’ll prepare something for him afterward. This is a fight that was supposed to happen already, and I think a win over Amoussou will credential me for a title bout”.
However, the Welterweight contender doesn’t want to mix confidence with arrogance. He admits Amoussou will be a great challenge and thanks Brave Combat Federation for providing tough competition for him.
“I see this being a very tough, entertaining fight. He’s a striker, so he’s comfortable on the feet, but he also has very good grappling, especially with his judo. But I’m a good grappler too, and I’m training to defend his takedowns and keep things standing where I’ll look for another KO. Amoussou is just the kind of fighter I want to test myself against, and I think Brave is doing a great job of attracting those guys. I’m very happy to be fighting Amoussou on a big card and I’ll represent Brazil well”, claims Cavalheiro, who isn’t bothered by his opponent training at KHK MMA.
“I don’t really mind Amoussou training at KHK MMA. Once the cage door closes is just me and him. I know the facilities are great there, but they’re not getting in the cage with him. I like that he’s experienced and comes in with a lot of fights under his belt, but all of that won’t matter once it’s me and him”.
Brave 13: Euro Evolution will be held at The SSE Arena, in Belfast. The main event will be a rematch for the Bantamweight title as current champion Stephen Loman tries to go 2-0 against challenger Frans Mlambo. The co-main event is set for a Catchweight of 73 kg between former UFC fighter Norman Parke and Myles Price.
Northern Ireland will become the ninth country to host a Brave Combat Federation, after Bahrain, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, India, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Jordan, and Indonesia.
