CES 47’s Richie Santiago wants a call from the UFC for Christmas
Lincoln, R.I. (Sun, November 12, 2017)– Before undefeated flyweight Richie Santiago tries to improve to 6-0 against Shawn Mack (6-2) at CES 47 on Friday in Lincoln, R.I., LIVE on AXS TV Fights, the Milford, Mass., fighter spoke with FightBookMMA.
How has training camp been going for this fight?
It’s been going really well. I’ve been doing most of my camp at home, at BST. I did a bit of work at Juniko and Triforce, but it’s really me doing two-a-days at BST that’s making the difference. I’m up at five in the morning and in the gym at six, then I’m off to work til five – then, back to BST until nine or ten o’ clock. It’s been going really well.
Do you have much of a life outside of MMA and work?
Oh, sure. Yeah, my weekdays are pretty busy. If you try to get a hold of me, I’m probably in the gym or I’m at work, then I go to bed. I’m not going to be out on a weekday. I like to make time on weekends to go out and have fun with my friends and hang out and have a good time and enjoy life.
What are your thoughts on your upcoming opponent? Will this be your toughest opponent, so far?
Yeah, I think this will definitely be a good step-up. It’ll be a real test for me – the kid has a good record – he’s got a lot of finishes on his record. I’m coming in there to run through him and that’s not going to slow me down. I just don’t see myself not getting the “W.”
What did you take away from your last fight?
A lot of things. I learned that I can take a punch, obviously, there’s no quit in me. I just need to work on my cardio. That’s why I’ve been focusing so much on cardio workouts, this time around. I feel like I got gassed in that fight, but this time around, I’ll be a lot better off. I don’t want to draw it out like last time. That was just too much of a brawl, and I just want to finish it.
What’s on your Christmas list this year?
A call from Dana White would be nice.
Where would you like to be, one year from today?
If not in the UFC, man, I want that CES belt. I’m 5-0 and about to be 6-0 and I want a belt. If I don’t get the belt, I want to be in the UFC
