From Underdog to Main Event: Jose Torres’ Electrifying Journey to BRAVE CF 73 Spotlight
“Shorty” will get his shot at the bantamweight championship when he meets Nkosi Ndebele in the main event of BRAVE CF 73. While his journey to this point has felt inevitable for many, the man himself has made it known that this has been an unlikely climb to the summit.
In Torres’ own words, he didn’t think that he’d make it this far in life. From the neighborhood he lived in to the nature of his upbringing, Jose was always the underdog. As a Latino from the south side of Chicago, violence has always been part of his life for as long as he can remember.
Thankfully, he had quite the role models. His mother took him to every event and activity she could, constantly trying to provide him with a way forward. His brother was what Torres calls a “good bad role model”, urging him to make the right choices, whereas his father’s tough love allowed him to push through the pain and find a new dawn.
It hasn’t exactly been an easy road. Even in the last few years, the BRAVE star has suffered setbacks through his mental health – but he’s never let it deter him from his ultimate goal. On Saturday night, he has the chance to set the record straight once and for all.
BRAVE CF 73 takes place on August 12, at the Coliseo El Salitre, in Bogota, Colombia. The main event of the evening will see the vacant Bantamweight World Title on the line as Jose “Shorty” Torres takes on Nkosi “The Future” Ndebele.
