In the wake of Raphael Assuncao’s ankle injury, we finally have an answer as to who will fight Urijah Faber at UFC Fight Night 62… No one.  Faber has been pulled from the card altogether and the event was left without a main event, until now.

Former middleweight title challenger and currently the #7 ranked welterweight, Demian Maia will face off against 15thranked, undefeated Ryan LaFlare, in what has now been promoted to headlining bout.  Despite the loss of the high profile main event, Maia vs. LaFlare serves as a suitable replacement.  The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world-champion, Maia has had mixed results since his drop 170 pounds, going 4-2 and picking up impressive wins against Rick Story and Jon Fitch along the way.  An impressive performance in a headlining slot could get Maia that chance to fight a top contender.

Facing Maia will be the Blackzilian’s standout prospect, Ryan LaFlare.  Undefeated so far in his 11-0 pro career, LaFlare is off to a blazing hot start in the UFC, going 4-0 under the promotions banner, picking up a signature win over John “Doomsday” Howard this past April.  Demian Maia will certainly prove to be LaFlare’s toughest test to date, and being bumped to the main event slot against Maia in front of his home country of Brazil certainly won’t make things any easier.

UFC Fight Night 62 goes down on March 21st, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
