Diego Brandao replaces the injured Cole Miller against Conor McGregor at UFC Fight Night 46
UFC officials announced today that Cole Miller has suffered torn ligaments in his hand and will now be forced out of the highly anticipated grudge match against Conor McGregor. Diego Brandao (18-9) has now agreed to step up and replace the injured Miller and face Mcgregor for the headlining fight at UFC Fight Night 46, which will take place July 19th at the O2 in Dublin.
“Diego Brandao is explosive and a well-rounded fighter,” White stated. “This should be a war.”
Brandao (18-9), the winner of season fourteen of The Ultimate Fighter, was scheduled to compete at the The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale this past weekend however, he was forced out of his bout with an injury shortly beforehand. The Ultimate Fighter 14 winner Brandao is coming off a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 168, and he now holds a 4-2 in the UFC. He had badly missed weight (151.5 pounds) for the fight and then also suffered a devastating first-round knockout, which ended his three-fight winning streak.
Conor McGregor (21-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) has been sitting on the sidelines for the past ten months, due to a serious knee injury tearing his ACL in last winning fight against Max Holloway back in August. McGregor will now have the added pressure of fighting for the first time in his home town. He will be looking to keep up his 10 fight winning streak alive, with his past 2 fights in the UFC up against Max Holloway and Marcus Brimage.
