Erick Silva makes his return to the Octagon December 20th in Brazil for UFC Fight Night 58: Machida vs. Dalloway. His opponent this night will be Mike “Biggie” Rhodes.
Silva who last fight in the UFC saw him on the losing via TKO in the 3rd round to Matt Brown in Cincinnati, Ohio at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva in May of this year. There was a lot of buzz surrounding Silva as he made his UFC debut, many of us went to scout the Brazilian scrapper and found him mauling opponents, and we have seen some of that in the UFC, but we have also seen him fall short at times, when pushed. He is currently 4-4 in the UFC (16-5 with 1 no contest), which does speak volumes to his inconsistency when he steps up in competition. Not to say that there is any shame in losing to Matt Brown, Dong Hyun Kim or Jon Fitch, but those are the guys you need to beat to further your cause to get to that outer stratosphere of the UFC.
Mike Rhodes, is currently 0-2 in the UFC (6-3 overall), losses to Robert Whittaker and George Sullivan mark his quest in the “bigs”. This looks like a lamb to the slaughter deal, feeding Erick Silva fresh meat for his return in front of his home crowd, hopefully getting back on the winning track.
