Saturday June 4, 2016— Gabe Rosado is a fighter looking for that right next step. He broke a five fight losing skid last December with a decision win over Joshua Clottey, a former champion. The losses came against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Peter Quillin and David Lemieux. He boasts a record of 22-9 with 13 KOs.
Tonight at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California, On the Vargas vs Salido undercard, he takes on a rising young fighter, in Antonio Gutiérrez, (20-1 with 9 Kos), who is looking to make Rosado, his next step. He is riding a 3 fight win streak since is sole loss, last May.
This will be a pronounced step up in competition for Gutiérrez, however. He is following the same journey Rosado took on his way up the ladder. A fact that Rosado says will help him in this fight. During a conference call for the media, we asked him where he felt his advantage lay in this matchup.
“If you look at my last few fights, I’ve fought nothing but former world champions, and you know, the best in the middleweight division. My last fight was against Joshua Clottey, former world champion. I think I just see the inexperience in Antonio, and I should be able to take advantage of his inexperience.”
It should be a good fight.
