FightBookMMA Interviews Canadian MMA Fighter Christien Savoie
Tuesday December 22, 2015— Canadian fighter Christien Savoie will be making his move to Elite 1 MMA on January 30th 2016. Savoie has an amateur record of 3-0 and pro record of 1-0.
His journey in MMA began at a young age with an introduction to Taekwondo.
“Later when I was around 13-14, I saw my first UFC fight, the fight where Matt Hughes knocked out Carlos Newton with a slam, I fell in love with MMA after that.”
Savoie is fighting out of Saint-John New Brunswick and part of MXT Bjj and Fight Academy. He has his mind-set to one day step on the biggest stage of MMA.
“There is no doubt in my mind that I want to be in the UFC. I just want to test myself against the very best fighters on the planet when I hit my prime.”
Motivated by his love for combat sports and desire to succeed, over the years he has been inspired by some of the greatest in the game.
“Fedor Emelianenko is probably my all time favorite, but Mirko Cro Cop, Mark Hunt, Robbie Lawler, George St. Pierre, Jose Aldo are amongst my favourites. However, I’m inspired by all the fighters who are at the very top regardless of whether or not I like their style of fighting.”
When it comes to striking or his fights going to the ground, it doesn’t matter to Christien. He’s willing to go where the fight takes him as long as he’s winning. Other than training he says he lives a simple life.
“I just live a very basic life I guess, I eat, sleep, train, I’m a bouncer on weekends. I enjoy the sauna on my days off and just relaxing for the most part. A good night out once in a while isn’t bad either.”
Looking back on his career so far, his most memorable fight was his first fight.
“Nothing beats the emotions I felt winning my MMA debut. Fighting is something that I truly believe that you either have it or you don’t, and I proved to myself and everybody that I definitely had it.”
