(London, UK. February 4th 2015)- The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation is to hold its first Annual General Meeting during the week of the 2015 IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA). The AGM will take place on Friday 10th July 2015.
The Annual General Meeting will enable Member Federation representatives to both propose and vote on important issues. The event will also usher in the IMMAF’s first board elections, in which board positions will be determined for the first time by member vote. Since formation in 2012, the current interim board representatives have worked hard to establish the organization; have overseen the expansion of IMMAF to encompass 36 members; and have seen the very first World Championships of Amateur MMA take place.
The existing board of directors has acted as the volunteer led executive body of IMMAF and consists of the following representatives from the sport of MMA: Bertrand Amoussou (President, France), George Sallfeldt (Vice President, Sweden), August Wallen (Sweden), Tom Madsen (Germany), Frank Babcock (USA) and Robbie Olivier (UK).
In the run up to the 2015 AGM, members will have the opportunity to recommend representatives to stand in the elections and to canvass on their behalf.
IMMAF CEO Densign White said:
“July’s Annual General Meeting marks a turning point for IMMAF. Established and driven through largely volunteer effort, IMMAF has required dedication, commitment, passion and hard work from its founding board. The existing team has scaled mountains to get IMMAF to where it is today. However, the principles on which IMMAF is founded are democratic ones: It has always been the goal that once the organization was firmly established, board positions should be opened up to members and to member votes. Democracy lies at the core of the Olympic ideal and, like other sports, MMA must also be represented by leaders as best chosen by the community. The fact that IMMAF can now plan for board elections is a sign of its strengthened position; and an accolade to the individuals who have worked tirelessly to bring IMMAF to where it stands today.”
