By: Roberto Villa
Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana both stepped on the scales Friday (9/12/14) at MGM Grand. Mayweather weighed in at 146.5 pounds, a half-pound below the welterweight limit. Maidana weighed in at 146.
According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Mayweather will receive a base purse of $32 million for the fight, and as we recall he did the same amount in May. Maidana doubles his payday from $1.5 million to $3 million.
This will be the fifth consecutive fight that Mayweather has earned a base purse of at least $32 million. Mayweather made boxing history earning the largest base purse of $41.5 million for his victory over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last September.
Mayweather has two fights left in his deal with Showtime, and he states that he plans to fight again in May and September of 2015.
