Gateway Fight Series: New Years Revolution II
St. Louis, MO (Jan 2nd)- The calendar has turned to 2017 and St. Louis based promotion Gateway Fight Series is looking to set the tone as Jared Daniels-Block and company make their arena debut on the campus of St. Louis University at Chaifetz Arena this Saturday January 7th. This will be a mix of K1 and MMA action headlined by the pro debut of KJ Jones pitted against Elmir Kulosman. In another interesting K1 matchup Darryl Cobb will take on a very game General in Scott Futrell one that has Fight Of The Night written all over it. It my not be past midnight when this matchup goes down but “The Gremlin” Josh Sampo makes his long-awaited return after being forced off the RFA 46 card do to severe illness. Sampo will be opposite of a very game and athletic Tyger Banks. MCS product Montrell James will look to keep the I-70 series on the K1 side in favor of the 314 as he welcomes Kansas City native Bryan Carroll to Chaifetz Arena. To kick off the pro card of the K1 portion is one of the most fun and entertaining up and comers in the St. Louis region in “Young Metro” Luis Pena who was one of the most active fighters in 2016. Young Metro will be opposite of Rome Lindsey who is a Kansas product but is no stranger to the St. Louis scene. One hell of a way to kick off the pro portion of the card.
For the amateur portion of the K1 card. There are two very interesting matchups that will be peeking the interest of fight fans. That would be savy vet Melissa Sheppard taking on AOC product Savannah Shahan who is taking the fight on short notice like all AOC products Savannah stays ready so fight fans can expect an incredible war between these two warriors. The other that may stick out for locals is promoter Beejay Smith as he will be taking off the suit and dawning the trunks and gloves as he is set to do battle with Sam Stevenor.
The amateur portion of the MMA card is going to be a fun one that will feature one of St. Louis’ most colorful ammy’s in “The Irish Handgrengade” Steven Coleman who comes from a very active 2016 and who looks to rebound from the first KO of his young career. Opposite of Coleman will be a young yet hungry Corbin Howard as he looks to make big waves on a huge stage. Another fun matchup that has had some social media traction would be the villain vs. the good guy and that meaning Devin Anderson who sometimes plays the villain against a clean-cut and fan friendly Corbin Howard. Look for some great action in this matchup. With being a guy from good ol Southern Illinois I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention one of my favorite matchups that will feature Southern Illinois and Pedigo product Chuckie Brooks as he will go to work at against AOC’s Mark Kirkland in what very well may be the sleeper fight of the night.
When I asked promoter/owner Jared Daniels-Block can fans expect out of Gateway Fight Series in 2017 the answer was simple.
“Fans can expect the 4th of July at every show. Meaning expect Fireworks folks.”
