In a rematch of their April 2015 fight at Glory 20, Middleweight Champ Simon Marcus and Jason Wilnis put on the fight of the night. Marcus edged Wilnis in their first meeting, on the cards. This fight was a back and forth affair that thrilled the audience!
Glory 33: Simon Macrus v Jason Wilnis
Each fighter had his moments; Marcus came on early, but Wilnis started finding his range towards the end of the second round. After getting caught with a shot that looked like it hurt him, Marcus settled into a corner, gave us his best Angerson (Spider) Silva impression, dipping, ducking, and dodging most of Wilnis’ punches. Not all of them, however. Marcus tried selling the fact that he was unaffected, smiling through the barrage. Wilnis was not buying. He saw the finish line, and sprinted his way to it, knocking out Marcus in the third round to win the Glory Middleweight Championship!
The main event saw a champion on a 10 fight win streak put his belt on the line against a challenger with a 3-3 record over the last 2 years. The outcome was as expected; an expedient dispatching in the first round. The Glory Heavyweight Champion, Rico Verhoeven will next put his belt on the line against a legend, in Badr Hari on December 10th, 2016.
