Homecoming For Josh Thomson

Monday September 7, 2015– The Real Punk is the nickname for one of the most versatile Lightweight fighters in all of MMA. Josh Thomson, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, an NCAA division III wrestler and a competitor in Strikeforce, UFC, and now Bellator MMA. Thomson has shown that he is able to compete at a high level no matter what organization he is fighting for.

A one time Strikeforce Lightweight Champion, and a one time U.S. Lightweight Champion has not only made his way around the MMA circuit but has also built a record of 20 wins 8 losses and 1 no contest. Even though he is a former champion Thomson found himself hitting a rough patch in his career with 3 straight loses in the UFC, to Benson Henderson, Bobby Green, and last to Tony Ferguson. With Josh and the UFC agreeing to part ways, Thomson hit the open market wasting no time he signed a multi-Fight deal with Bellator MMA.

Singing with Bellator gives Thomson another chance to compete at a high level of fighting on a big bright stage, and possibly putting himself in line for a title shot down the line. With Bellator already having big names like Ill Will Brooks who is the current Bellator Lightweight Champion, and Michael Chandler a former Lightweight Champion, Josh Should have his hands full at making a run at the strap.

After signing with Bellator, Thomson was booked for Dynamite 1 and will be performing in front of his home town of San Jose California at one of Bellators Biggest events of the year. The Huge event which will not only have Bellator and all the fights on the card, but will also have Glory Kickboxing in the same arena at the same time.

On September 19, his opponent Mike Bronzoulis, a lightweight contender with the record of 18 wins 8 losses and 1 draw. Mike is currently riding a 3 fight winning streak with a submission, KO, and a unanimous decision victories. Bronzoulis make his return to Bellator MMA looking for a 4th straight victory. While Josh Loves to fight in front of his home fans in the Bay Area, Thomson also likes to give back as well as he has opened his gym in San Jose California Knoxx Material Arts And Fitness.

I called the gym looking for info on the classes and about the gym itself, and I got the chance to speak to Josh on the phone and he told me about the gym and the classes they provided for not only adults but children as well. As he told me about classes and his NCAA career I found myself extremely blessed to have spoken to an MMA great. As September 19th comes around The Real Punk looks to snap his skid and get back on the winning stride and show Bellator MMA and all the fans just who Josh Thomson is.
