IMMAF JOINS SPORT INTEGRITY GLOBAL ALLIANCE (SIGA)

(London. 26 September 2016) On Wednesday 13th September, the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) joined the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA).

IMMAF President Kerrith Brown joined 75 global sport leaders at SIGA’s General Meeting in Cascais in Portugal, where on IMMAF’s behalf he signed SIGA’s Aspirational Statement of Intent and SIGA’s Core Principles for Sport Integrity.

Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) is an independent and neutral coalition and was formed in April 2016 by leading organisations from across all sectors of the sport industry, with the aim of addressing urgent reform in the integrity and governance of sport.

SIGA recognises the invaluable social, educational and cultural function of sport, in particular its special role in transcending political, geographic, ethnic, religious, national and other barriers, and through this, uniting people over the world in the collective spirit of fair play, peace and mutual respect, and in the potential to achieve the highest forms of athletic skill, endurance, recreation, excellence and extraordinary human achievement.

The development of SIGA follows increasing calls, from stakeholders across all corners of industry involved in and supporting sport, for the establishment of a global, independent and neutral sport integrity body.

IMMAF President, Kerrith Brown, said:

“On behalf of IMMAF, I feel honoured to have been invited to join SIGA. With stories of corruption dominating sports news in recent years I believe passionately that it is time for urgent changes in sport governance. Sport is funded by tax payer money due to worldwide governmental belief in its positive health and social benefits – seen worthy of public investment alongside hospitals, education and welfare. It is vital that sports leaders take full responsibility in ensuring that the rewards are tangible and fairly accessible to all from the grassroots up and that sports governing bodies are closely monitored, audited and held accountable for good governance. Corruption and greed in sports administration cannot any longer be allowed to contravene and undermine the underpinning values of fair play, peace and mutual respect in sport, or be permitted to tarnish both every day and extraordinary human achievement.”

The SIGA Council said:

“The SIGA Council are delighted to welcome IMMAF to our growing and diverse membership of stakeholders from across the world of sport. The IMMAF shares our passion for driving forward much needed reform across good governance, financial integrity and sports betting integrity. At SIGA we are committed to working with as many individuals and organizations involved in the sports industry as possible so that together we can usher in new era of integrity and transparency for the benefit of us all.”
