Invicta 23 Preview And Predictions

Kansas City, MO (May 16th, 2017)- Invicta Fighting Championships heads back to the historic Scottish Rite Temple this Saturday on one hell of a stacked card.

The Main Event will feature Vanessa Porto (18-7) taking on Agnieska Niedzweidz (9-0). This fight may very well land one of these ladies in the UFC with the newly developed Flyweight division. Porto is looking to bounce back from a loss to Jennifer Maia back at Invicta 16 for the Interim Invicta Flyweight Championship. Prior to that Maia loss Porto had ripped off three wins in a row. Niedzweidz who has yet to taste defeat in her pro career will look to build off wins over the likes of Samara Santo, Christine Stanley, and more.

Prediction- Porto takes a highly contested decision giving Niedzweidz her first loss.

In the Co Main Event fans will see Roxanne Modafferi (20-13) going up against Sarah D’Alelio (11-6). “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi recently picked up the Flyweight title for Fusion Fight League with a submission win over Prisicila de Souza. Modafferi will look to keep that momentum going against the savy vet D’Alelio. “The Monster” who is riding a four fight winning streak will look to make it number five over Modafferi.

Prediction-Fight of The Night honors and one I will not pick a winner because the winner will be the Invicta fans.

In Atomweight action we will see the return of Herica Tiburcio (10-4) going to battle with Tessa Simpson (5-1). One would have to say that the winner of this fight will go on to get a title shot. Tiburcio who dethroned the “Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson to gain Invicta gold but in her first defense lost the strap to current champion Ayaka Hamasaki. “The Typhoo” has not felt defeat since 2009 and is currently on a three fight winning streak.

Prediction- Tiburicio by third round submission

Bantamweight Elizabeth Phillips (6-5) is set to take on Kelly Faszholz (3-2). Former UFC product Phillips is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Sarah Howell but is looking to rebound under the Invicta banner after falling victim to a highlight reel head kick knock out courtesy of Leah Letson. Faszholz is looking for victory after two straight losses under the UFC banner.

Prediction- Faszholz by Unanimous Decision

Fan favorite Andrea “KGB” Lee will take on Liz Tracy. Tracy is riding a two fight winning streak with victories over Cindy Hale and Christine Stanley. “KGB” who has won four of her last five including the LFA Flyweight title. This will be a damn good fight. FightBookMMA caught up with Andrea Lee’s coach and husband today.

I ask what can fans expect this weekend at Invicta from KGB?

KGB’s nutrition and conditioning is on point. Her cardio is so good she could breath underwater. Stronger, leaner and more confident than ever. She knows what’s on the line here with the flyweights coming to the UFC and wants more than ever to send a message. She’s truly on a mission.

Prediction- Andrea Lee via TKO

Strawweights Tiffany Van Soest (0-2) and Christine Ferea (1-0) lock horns in what is sure to be a fantastic matchup. Van Soest is trying to bounce back from back to back losses her last coming against Kal Holliday at Invicta 19. Ferea is trying to build off what most considered an upset over fan favorite Rachael Ostovich. “Misfit” has been under some great coaches this camp and FightBookMMA caught up with her today.

How was camp as a whole?

“It was grueling, aggressive, and consistent”

What can the fans expect this weekend?

“The best Misfit yet.”

Prediction- Ferea by TKO

In Featherweight action veteran Ediane Gomes (10-4) takes on Pam Sorenson (5-1). Gomes who currently has lost her last two but has fought some of the best in the game the likes of Amanda Nunes, Ronda Rousey, Tonya Evinger and more. She will look to use her veteran savy to help her take out Sorenson. Sorenson on the other hand has won three straight including a split decision victory over Jessy Rose-Clark under the Invicta banner. FightBookMMA caught up with Pam “Bam” Sorenson today.

Like the others we asked what fans can expect this weekend at Invicta?

“I’ve been working my ass off all camp so the fans can expect to see the best me yet.”

Prediction- Sorenson gets the upset via Unanimous Decision

Kicking off what is sure to be a fun night will be newcomers and bantamweights Yaya Rincon (0-0) facing Brooksie Bayard (1-1). Bayard is coming off a victory over Sha Whittington at USA-MMA. Rincon will be making her pro debut after reeling off four straight victories as an ammy two of which are over Bellator’s Brooke Mayo. FightBookMMA caught up with Rincon’s strength and conditioning coach Doug Casebier.

We are a week out how does Yaya look?

“People will think she is on juice but Yaya is just on a different level.”

What puts her on another level?

“Physical and mental work ethic and natural athletic ability.”

Prediction- Rincon by TKO
