INVICTA FC 13 RESULTS

The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas played host to Invicta FC 13 on Thursday night. The show saw another masterful display of dominance from Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, and two new champions crowned.

Also notable was the announcement from Invicta President Shannon Knapp during the card, that Invicta Strawweight Champion Livia Renata Souza, will defend her title September 12 against Alexa Grasso. Invicta FC 14 will take place in Kansas City.

Cristiane Justino def. Faith van Duin via TKO (Punches) R1 0:45 – Retains Featherweight Title

Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino took 45 seconds to beat down Faith Van Duin and force the referee’s stoppage in her featherweight title defense. Cyborg landed big shots early, as Van Duin tried to tie her up in the clinch. That would only delay the finish momentarily, as Cyborg began unloading with Van Duin’s back to the fence. A knee to the body liver led to more punches which sent Van Duin to the mat. The punishment continued, briefly, before Steve Mazzagatti waved the contest off. Attention will now turn back to a potential superfight with Ronda Rousey.

Tonya Evinger def. Irene Aldana via TKO (Punches) R4 4:38 – Wins Vacant Bantamweight Title

Tonya Evinger, Invicta’s new bantamweight champion. Throughout their title fight, Evinger put Irene Aldana on her back and dominated her from top position. The first round was decisive and set the tone, as Aldana managed to survive what looked to be a fight-ending armbar. Big overhand rights were leading to takedowns with great regularity for Evinger, who mixed up her attacks on the mat, and was never in any danger. Evinger was physically sick between rounds three and four, but shook it off to put Aldana on her back in round four and eventually forced the stoppage with more relentless ground and pound at 4 minutes and 38 seconds.

Ayaka Hamasaki def. Herica Tiburcio via Split Decision (49-46, 48-47, 47-48) R5 5:00 – Wins Atomweight Title

The two top atomweights in the world clashed for divisional supremacy, and it was Ayaka Hamasaki who came out on top. Cemented as the number one 105 pound figher in the world, Hamasaki is now the Invicta atomweight champion after beating the game Herica Tiburcio. The champion was consistently put on her back by Hamasaki, and was rarely able to threaten despite trying to work from the bottom. On the feet, Hamasaki landed the cleaner shots, deserving of the unanimous decision she was awarded.

Pannie Kianzad def. Jessica-Rose Clark via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) R3 5:00

Pannie Kianzad moved to 8-0 with a convincing win over Jessica-Rose Clark. Always in control, Kianzad dictated the pace on the feet for the majority of the three round contest, picking her opponent apart. Kianzad now has a strong claim for a 135 pound title shot next time out.

Amber Brown def. Catherine Costigan via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 3:34

Amber Brown moved into atomweight title contention with an impressive win over Ireland’s Catherine Costigan. Brown scored a trip straight into mount early on in the fight, combining heavy ground and pound with stifling top control to push for a finish. Brown eventually forced Costigan to give up her back, before locking in the rear-naked choke to get the submission win.

Jamie Moyle def. Amy Cadwell Montenegro via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) R3 5:00

Jamie Moyle was awarded a split decision victory over Amy Montenegro in a gruelling fight. Moyle had the best of the action in the first round, working hard for an armbar on the ground. The second saw the fighters exchange on the feet, with Moyle connecting with the more powerful shots. A tiring third round was largely controlled by Montenegro in the clinch, but it was not enough as two judges scored the bout for “Loveboat” Jamie.

Amber Leibrock def. Marina Shafir via TKO (Punches) R1 0:37

Featherweight prospect Amber Leibrock made an eye-catching professional debut, stopping Four Horsewoman Marina Shafir in only 37 seconds in the show’s opener. Shafir had a point to prove after a devastating defeat against Amanda Bell in August 2014, but fared no better here. Two big overhand rights dropped Shafir, before more punches followed and the lights were turned out.
