Sunday September 13, 2015– On Saturday, Sept. 12, Invicta Fighting Championships 14: Evinger vs. Kianzad was at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The event streamed live and exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
In the main event, bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger def. Sweden’s Pannie Kianzad this will be Penne’s first defeat of her career. Evinger took Kianzad to the ground throwing punches and elbows before taking her back. Evinger looked for a rear-naked choke, but then transitioned to an armbar attempt. In Round two, Evinger dropped Kianzad with a right hand and immediately went to the ground. Kianzad was relentless with her punches and elbows earning her a second-round stoppage.
DeAnna Bennett remained undefeated after a three-round war with former strawweight champion Katja Kankaanpää. In all three rounds Bennett used her length and size, we saw clinch work and guillotine attempts and ground work. The judges gave Bennett the win by unanimous decision.
Roxanne Modafferi used her experience against newcomer Mariana Morais. Modafferi started off the fight with punches on her feet, but when she took her to the ground Roxanne began to drop punches and elbows to her opponent. In round two, we saw more of the same as round one, Modafferi was the more dominant fighter against the Brazilian. In round three Modafferi earn a takedown, but Morais tried a guillotine attempt. Modafferi escaped and mounted her dropping punches and forcing referee John McCarthy to stop the fight.
Andrea Lee scored a third-round armbar finish against Rachael Ostovich. Lee’s striking was on display throughout the first round, with kicks and punches to the body of Ostovich. Lee almost had a rear-naked choke, but Ostovich was saved by the bell. In early of round two, Ostovich found her range but Lee countered and dropped her with a stiff left hand. In round three, Lee continued her onslaught against Ostovich with knees and then took her to the ground mounting her back. On the ground Andrea Lee transitioned for an armbar and Ostovich verbally tapped with just two seconds left.
Belgium’s Cindy Dandois defeated Australian Megan Anderson, submitting her via triangle choke in round two of their featherweight bout. In round one, Anderson dropped Dandois with a right hand taking the fight to the ground. She threatened with an armbar and then transitioned to a mounted triangle. In round two, the fight went to the ground again that’s when Dandois locked in the triangle choke forcing Anderson to tap.
Two-time national wrestling champion Sharon Jacobson becoming the first to defeat Jamie Moyle. In the fight, Moyle attacked with kicks but Jacobson pinned Moyle to the cage. Both fighters traded knees and elbows from the clinch, but Jacobson was able to slam Moyle to the mat not just once but on multiple occasions. They went the distance earning Jacobson unanimous decision win.
Atomweight Jinh Yu Frey used her striking to outwork Liz McCarthy winning by unanimous decision. In the fight, Frey was successful with her kicks and punches. Frey also had great takedowns but McCarthy never stopped coming forward. Great fight for both athletes.
J.J. Aldrich defeated Rosa Acevedo by knockout. Aldrich landed a knee to the liver that stunned Acevedo. With a pair of follow-up punches, Acevedo was clearly not going to continue fighting and the ref called the fight.
Flyweight Aspen Ladd won her fight with a dominant win over Amanda Bobby Cooper. In round one and two they spent the majority of the time on the mat. Ladd mounted Bobby and unleashed punches then transitioned to an armbar and forced a tap.
Felicia Spencer battered Rachel Wiley to earn a first-round TKO. Spencer took Wiley to the mat early and dropping elbows forcing the referee to stop the fight.
