Jon Jones rematch title defense against Alexander Gustafsson is now targeted for UFC 177
UFC Co-owner Lorenzo Feritta, confirmed to ESPN’s Brett Okomoto last night that plans are in the works for a much anticipated rematch title fight between Jon “The Bones” Jones and Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson. The rematch title event is being targeted for the UFC 177 PPV event on August 30th at the MGM Garden Arena.
Gustafsson has verbally agreed to this exciting match up and he has been very verbal about wanting this rematch to happen, ever since he suffered a loss to what is widely considered to be one of the best fights of the year. Gustafsson proved that night he was arguably Jon Jones toughest opponents that he has ever faced.
Gustafsson ended up having a very disappointing loss by decision that night at UFC 165, but Gustafsson and fans alike have been waiting for this rematch to happen ever since.
“I don’t think he likes me. That’s all I can say,” Gustafsson said on an episode of the MMA Hour in April. “It is what it is and one day we will fight. Hopefully that day is soon. … I think I am in his head now.”
UFC is reportedly waiting on word from Jon Jones to confirm this bout.
Please stay tuned to MMA Fight Club for updates on this much anticipated rematch.
