Jon Manley Predicts Big Finish Over Manny Walo at CES 44
RHODE ISLAND (Wed, April 19. 2017)– UFC vet Jon Manley checks in with FightBookMMA before he takes on Manny Walo at CES 44 on May 12 in Lincoln, R.I., LIVE on AXS TV Fights.
How does it feel to be back in the CES cage this May?
Awesome. I’m excited to fight. I had knee surgery a year ago and was out a while because of that. Fighting for CES is awesome. They’re the best promotion around, they give a ton of publicity.
Are you approaching this fight any different from fights in the past?
Yeah, you’re always evolving as a fighter from training. I’ve been doing this for over ten years. It’s just small, little things in training and making sure I don’t overdo it.
What does Manny bring to the table?
He’s got a lot of fight. He’s experienced. He stays really calm – it’s hard to get him off balance, emotionally. I’m pretty confident that he’s not going to rush. He’s a decent striker and a really good wrestler but I’m not sure how his ground game is. He’s tough a guy but nothing I’m too worried about.
How do you see this fight going?
I see myself winning by finishing it. I’m not sure how – if it’s going to be standup or on the ground. I go in there fighting and wherever the fight goes, it goes but I’m pretty comfortable in either situation – if he takes me down or if I take him down. If I take him down, I’m going to smash. If I’m on the bottom, I’m not scared to be on my back – if you take me down, big deal – not a win for you yet. In standup I’m really comfortable with the situation.
What will this victory mean for your career?
A victory is money, it should mean a lot. A loss would suck, it wouldn’t be fun. A victory would propel me right up there in the local scene. I’d love a shot at the CES title. Then I get to keep going and try to make number one in the Big Show.
