Jose Uzcategui vs. Julius Jackson & Argenis Mendez vs. Miguel “Titere” Vazquez Results and Video Highlights

Wednesday October 07, 2015– Premier Boxing Champions did it again with a spectacular show on their Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays that hit San Antonio’s Cowboys Dancehall and the event was aired on Fox Sports 1.

In the main event, in a 168 lb bout, Jose Uzcategui (24-1, 20 KOs) was very impressive in the first round as he dropped Julius “The Chef” Jackson (19-1, 15 KOs) three times with a big right hand left-hook combination at the 1:27 mark. If that wasnt enough, he lands a right uppercut and left hand that floored Jackson again at the 35-second mark in the first round.

At the start of the second round, Uzcategui came in guns blazing finishing off Jackson with an eight-punch barrage and a clean left hook that forced referee Tony Weeks to wave the fight at the 2:16 mark and gave Jackson his first professional loss. The 24-year-old Uzcategui has now stopped 12 of his last 14 opponents.

QUICK HIGHLIGHTS: Jose Uzcategui vs. Julius Jackson

  • –Jose Uzecategui floored Julius Jackson three times in the first round, the initial knockdown coming courtesy of a right hand near the two-minute mark. He floored Jackson a second time with 1:27 left, then scored a third knockdown with a left at the 35-second mark. Jackson also hit the canvas twice from ruled slips.
  • –Early in the second round, Uzecategui wobbled Jackson once more, with a right hand being the initial blow that did damage.
  • –Uzcagtegui finished off the unbeaten Jackson with a left hook, flooring him at the 2:16 mark as referee Tony Weeks waved an end to the fight.

In the co-main event, was a battle of boxers who were competing for the second time since being dethroned as titleholders, Mendez (23-3-1, 12 KOs) came out the victor with the winning scores of 99-90, 97-92 and 95-94.

Vazquez the 28-year-old Mexican outlanded Mendez 111-101 overall, he also briefly shook Mendez with a right hand-left hook combination in the third-round before later being stunned himself by a right-left combo at the end of the round.

Mendez struggled to land his jab or even being able to set up any kind of rhythm. Mendez also often missed windups with his right hand and his check left hook, Vazquez continued to control the fight frustrating the Dominican by using his clench and pushing his opponent.

In the seventh round, Mendez began to turn the momentum winning behind his jab and left hook well that ended since referee Gregorio Alvarez deducted a point from Vazquez for holding. Mendez began to time Vazquez successfully throughout the ninth and 10th rounds. Even with the point deduction the judges gave the fight to Mendez.

QUICK HIGHLIGHTS: Argenis Mendez vs. Miguel “Titere” Vazquez

  • –Miguel Vazquez controlled the first three rounds behind his jab, firing with movement from range. The onetime 135-pound champion sustained his pace into the sixth, alternately jumping in and unleashing successfully with both hands.
  • –Argenis Mendez had a big seventh round, which he appeared to be winning behind his jab and left hook before referee Gregorio Alvarez penalized Vazquez a point for holding.
  • –Mendez began to time Vazquez more in the ninth and 10th, catching him off the jab with the left hook, most notably with a shot that caused sweat to spray from the Mexican’s head early in the final round as pictured below.
