JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ VS. DUSTIN ORTIZ AND JARED ROSHOLT VS. OLEKSIY OLIYNYK ADDED TO NOVEMBER EVENT
The number two flyweight in the world Joseph Benavidez has been added to the UFC Fight Night event in Austin, Texas. His opponent on that night will be fellow flyweight Dustin Ortiz.
Benavidez is coming off of a Performance of the Night effort when he won via submission (guillotine choke) over Tim Elliot at UFC 172 in April of this year. This will be Joseph’s 2nd fight since losing by knock out to Demetrious Johnson in December in an attempt to take away “Mighty Mouse’s” UFC Flyweight title. Benavidez brings a record of 20-4 (7-2 inside the UFC). This will be his first appearance in his home state of Texas under the UFC banner.
Tennessee native Dustin Ortiz will be making his fifth appearance in the UFC in his tussle with Benavidez. He is currently riding a two fight win streak, beating Ray Borg in April and Justin Scoggins in July of 2014. Ortiz has compiled a record of 14-3 (4-1 in the UFC).
Also added to the November 22 event is a women’s strawweight fight between Kailin Curren and Paige Vanzant. The two were originally scheduled to meet on Oct. 4th in Halifax, Canada, but this bout was shifted after Vanzant suffered a spinal injury. She recently commented about her injury on her Facebook, “I left Sacramento to come back to my home state and have been in intense physical therapy from a spine injury. I do not have insurance coverage in California and I have not been given the okay to train at this time.” She said “I am working to get better.”
Curren the 23 year old Hawaii native is currently undefeated with a record of 3-0 in her young MMA career. This will be her debut with the MMA leader
Vanzant, 20 years old from Nevada is also making her UFC debut, she brings in a 3-1 record.
The three time All-American wrestler from Oklahoma State University, Jared Rosholt, will be making his fourth appearance in the Octagon. He is currently undefeated in the UFC, marking off three straight wins over, Walt Harris, Daniel Omielanczuk, and Soa Palelei. He has an overall record of 11-1 (3-0 with the UFC)
37 year old Russian born, Oleksiy Oliynyk will be fighting in the UFC for the second time in his career. His first trip into the Octagon was a successful one, beating Anthony Hamilton via submission (via neck crank) at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stevens, June of 2014. This will mark the 60th fight of his professional Mixed Martial Arts career. He has amassed an astounding record of 49 (an amazing 40 wins by submission)-9-1, with the results of his first MMA fight not available, he has the rare distinction of having a 1 in the unknown column.
