Justin Sumter Reflects On CES 44 Win
RHODE ISLAND (Fri, May 19, 2017)– After recently winning his fourth straight at CES 44, LIVE on AXS TV Fights, top New England middleweight prospect Justin Sumter, who’s finished three of those bouts via first-round finish, spoke with FightBookMMA.
How do you feel about your win at CES 44?
It definitely showcased my striking and my technical ability. I think I was very calm. My opponent had really good jiu-jitsu, and I was happy to escape his armbar attempt and keep it on the feet for the most part. I’m happy.
But are you disappointed to not continue your streak of first-round finishes?
I wanted to get that first-round finish, but having the fight go three rounds showed that I could do it. To be able to keep my momentum from the first bell to the last bell, that showed everyone a lot, that I have it in me to do that and I can do it at the drop of the hat.
When would you like to return to action?
I would say as soon as possible, but I’ve been preparing for fights, training very hard, for six months. In the late summer or early fall, that’s when I’d like to get back in the cage for CES.
What can fans expect when you’re back in the CES cage?
They can expect more of what I’ve been giving them (laughs).
