KO Boxing Promotions: “Take Over” Highlights and Results
Sunday September 13, 2015– FightBookMMA.com was on scene at KO Boxing Promotions “Take Over” which took place at the Shaw Conference Centre, Edmonton, AB, Canada on September 11, 2015. The event show cased some local talent as well as two pro debuts.
The night started off with a heavyweight pro debut from John Dubois who faced local Chris Chung. Chung starts off with heavy hooks to the body throughout the first round and continuing into the third when Chung tagged Dubois with the jab getting a knockdown. After 4 rounds Chung received a unanimous decision over Dubois with all three judges scoring the bout 40-36.
The second fight of the night featured local fighters Flavio Michel and Behrang Yousefi. This welterweight bout has a much pumped Michel coming out strong throwing hooks and keeping Yousefi against the ropes during the first three rounds. During the last round Michel rocked Yousefi and was taunting him throughout. The judges had coming out the winner Michel by unanimous decision.
Another pro debut from Edmonton’s own Stan Ahumada confronted Winnipeg’s Dale Daniels. This heavyweight face off took an astonishing turn when Ahumada come out with a flurry of power shots. Daniels was hurt from the moment Ahumada hit him with his heavy fists dropping him in the first round. Ahumada wins his pro debut with an impressive knockout during round 1 after Daniels received the full ten count.
Former MMA star Ryan Ford steps into the ring against Gary Kopas in the fourth fight of the evening. This was a fight to remember as Kopas made Ford work during all four rounds. Ford showed the power of an experience fighter when he came out in the first round but Kopas took the shots and kept standing. Ford kept up his attack and during the last two rounds was full of activity swinging hard shots to try to win the fight. In the end, Ford came out with a unanimous victory after the all three judges scored the match 40-36.
In another welterweight match up fighters Josh Wagner from Calgary, Alberta took on Lee Laquette from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Wagner put together sensational combinations against Laquette which resulted in a knockdown late in the first round. As the second round gets underway Wagner continues his beautiful combos and Laquette threw in the towel after consulting his corner. Wagner received the win by TKO.
Another favourite Edmonton based heavyweight Paul Mackenzie (P-MAC) exchanged punches with Emile Arsenault from Shediac, New Brunswick. During the first round Mackenzie landing huge uppercuts all while taunting Arsenault. Mackenzie puts on pressure during the second and third rounds while Arsenault continues to look for shots, but not landing much. During the last round Mackenzie kept Arsenault at bay with his well-placed body shots. The much-loved local Paul Mackenzie wins by unanimous decision scoring 40-36 across the board.
The co-main event of the evening features a rematch between Cody Ries and Paul Bzdel. Ries came out strong in the first round and was dominating the fight when due to an accidental head butt the doctor called a stop to the fight due to the vision loss of Bzdel. These two fought each other on September 12, 2014 going the distance and have agreed to fight again on December 4, 2015.
The main event showcased undefeated lightweight fighter Cam O’connell against Mexican fighter Randy Lozano. O’Connell survived an early first round knockdown by Lozano but jumped back up and looking to strike. During the second and third O’Connell seemed to be playing it safe while making Lozano look for an opening. The fourth round held several warnings to O’Connell about illegal head shots. Round six and seven were dominated by O’Connell while he put pressure on Lozano ending both rounds with some wild swings. The eighth and final round had both fighters coming out strong and held some wild swings during the remaining seconds of the match. O’Connell got the decision with judges putting him ahead 76-75 and 77-74(x2).
