LAS VEGAS, Nevada (Mon, January 23, 2017)— Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) CEO Ed Soares announced today that the fourth LFA event headed to Louisiana in February will have a second world title fight on the stacked fight card. LFA 4 – Aguilar vs. Barcelos will be the fourth LFA event after the strategic merger between leading developmental organizations Legacy Fighting Championship (Legacy FC) and Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA).
Last month it was announced that Legacy FC featherweight champion Kevin “The Angel of Death” Aguilar will battle RFA featherweight champion Raoni Barcelos for the inaugural LFA featherweight world title in the main event of LFA 4. Now in the newly added co-main event, Legacy FC women’s flyweight champion Andrea “KGB” Lee will face RFA fan favorite Heather “Handguns” Bassett for the inaugural LFA women’s flyweight world title. LFA 4 – Aguilar vs. Barcelos takes place Friday, February 17th at the Horseshoe Casino & Hotel in Bossier City, Louisiana. The entire main card will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
“I am excited to add a second world title fight to LFA 4 on February 17th,” stated Soares. “Andrea Lee and Heather Bassett are two of the most talented women to have competed for Legacy FC and RFA. The winner of their flyweight title fight will become the first female champion in LFA history.”
Tickets for LFA 4 – Aguilar vs. Barcelos are available for purchase NOW at CombatTickets.com.
Lee (5-2) grew up in the famed Legacy FC promotion, which has also launched the careers of female UFC stars Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko. “KGB” competed and won for Legacy FC in all three branches of the promotion: amateur MMA, professional Kickboxing, and professional MMA. In the process, she became the first woman to win the Legacy FC amateur flyweight title and later became the first woman to win the Legacy FC flyweight title as a professional. Her aggressive finishing ability mixed with her Texas charm has made her one of the biggest flyweight stars in women’s MMA today. Lee will now look to add to her own legacy by becoming the first female champion in LFA history.
“My history with Legacy FC goes all the way back to my amateur days. I honestly feel like I grew up in Legacy FC. I was Legacy FC’s first-ever amateur women’s flyweight champ. Then went on to win a kickboxing match at LK2 before winning the first-ever professional Legacy FC women’s world flyweight title. As far as I know, no one has ever done that, so I feel proud that I own a piece of Legacy FC history,” Lee explained.
“Now once again, I have the opportunity to make history as the newly merged LFA’s first-ever LFA women’s world flyweight champ. My fight with Heather (Bassett) will not disappoint if you like a good old-fashioned fist fight, because I think that’s what we are both planning for. Either way, I feel like I’ve fought the higher level of competition and I’m more prepared as a result. No bad blood between Heather and I, but I expect you won’t know it when the bell rings. We are both sluggers and I think this will be a very crowd pleasing fight. Don’t get it twisted though. I absolutely plan on a finish. I’m not gonna drag this one out!”
Bassett (4-2) has roots in the other half of the two promotions that have merged to form LFA. While Lee rose to stardom in Legacy FC, Bassett developed her own skills in the renowned RFA promotion, which has launched the careers of female UFC stars Justine Kish and Marion Reneau. Just like Lee did in Legacy FC, Bassett competed for RFA in her final amateur bout before turning pro. “Handguns” then quickly made a splash in the professional ranks and became revered for her adept finishing ability. Bassett has finished her opponent in each of her wins, which has consisted of an equal number of submission and TKO victories. Now the former collegiate Track & Field star from Wisconsin is looking to sprint past the hometown favorite Lee in the first women’s title fight in LFA history.
“It is very exciting getting the opportunity to fight for the inaugural LFA women’s flyweight title at LFA 4. I fought for the RFA in my final amateur bout and then again as a professional. I loved fighting for the RFA on AXS TV, so it feels great to be fighting in the newly merged LFA for the first LFA women’s title,” stated Bassett.
“This will be a great title fight that will showcase what the flyweights are all about. Andrea (Lee) and I will bring out the best in each other on February 17th. We are two of the best to come from RFA and Legacy FC and it will be an exciting title fight for the fans to see.”
In September, Legacy FC and RFA officials announced that they would be merging to form the premier developmental organization in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) starting in January 2017. Legacy FC and RFA have launched the careers of over 100 athletes that have reached the pinnacle of MMA by competing in the UFC. Legacy FC has hosted seven combined events in the state of Louisiana that were televised live and worldwide.
The entire fight card for LFA 4 – Aguilar vs. Barcelos and further information regarding this event will be announced soon. LFA 4 will be the promotion’s second event to take place in the “The Pelican State” of Louisiana. The entire main card of LFA 4 will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on Friday, February 17th.
