Luan Santiago excited to ‘finally’ fight in Bahrain for Brave

Since signing for Brave Combat Federation, 2016 Brazil Fighter of the Year Luan “Miau” Santiago has asked for a fight abroad. With his first three bouts scheduled for his native Brazil, the lightweight contender was delighted to find out his upcoming fight with Djamil Chan would take place in Bahrain, at Brave 18, set for November 16th, at the Khalifa Sports City, during the Brave International Combat Week, the biggest combat sports festival in Asia.

Luan was especially happy to fight in Bahrain because it would give him an opportunity to train at KHK MMA, His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s gym, which has received other stars, such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Wanderlei Silva, Frankie Edgar, among others.

“Since I joined Brave, the only goal I had apart from getting the Lightweight Belt was to fight in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It’s something fascinating for me, you know? I’ve been waiting a lot for this opportunity and I’ll take the best out of it. I want to establish strong connections with this place, that’s the home of Brave, and if possible spend some time training with Sheikh Khalid’s team at KHK MMA too, I know they have awesome people over there, like Eldar Eldarov, who I respect a lot and even studied in the past, because we are in the same weight class”, says Luan.

Brave 18 will be headlined by three title fights. Interim lightweight champion Lucas Mineiro tries to unify his title against top contender Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady, while bantamweight champ Stephen Loman defends his belt as he faces Felipe Efrain. Finally, Marcel Adur and Velimurad Alkhasov will take each other on with inaugural flyweight gold on the line.
