Manny Vazquez Submits Ricardo Ramos to Claim Bantamweight Title on ‘AXS TV FIGHTS: LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP 51’
Saturday February 5, 2016– With the vacant Legacy Fighting Championship bantamweight title on the line Manny Vazquez (9-1) defeated Ricardo Ramos (8-1) by way of submission on AXS TV FIGHTS: LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP 51.
For the second time, Legacy Fighting Championship brought their finish-filled brand of MMA up North to Minnesota Friday. Legacy 51 featured a stacked card and even attracted the likes of Dana White and Matt Serra. As you would expect with Dana White in the audience, the fighters put on quite a show.
The main event of the night featured touted prospect Ricardo Ramos against Manny Vazquez for the vacant bantamweight title. Vazquez came in the underdog and on only three weeks notice, but that did not stop him from making quick work of the highly favored Brazilian. Vazquez used his wrestling and grappling skills to become the NEW Legacy bantamweight champ.
In the co-main event, Minnesota’s own Brock Larsontook on South Dakota’s Travis Coyle. Larson looked to be in big trouble early as Coyle sunk in a deep guillotine choke. Larson, purple in the face, fought through it somehow and ended up finishing the fight via TKO moments later. After the fight the 38 year-old announced his retirement from competition.
Elsewhere on the card, heavyweight champ Cody East, at the request of Dana White, fought on three weeks notice in a non-title fight against Kevin Asplund. East made a very strong statement to the UFC President, finishing Asplund in just 40 seconds. UFC-vet Jacob Volkmann also made a statement in his second fight with Legacy. The Minnesota fighter took out then-undefeated Brazilian Antonio Trocoli in dominant fashion. Volkmann, despite a huge height disadvantage, used his superior wrestling skills to cruise to a unanimous decision.
