(London, June 20, 2016) Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will crown a new CWFC middleweight world champion at the Camden Centre, London on July 8.
The belt, which was recently vacated by Jack Hermansson, will be on the line when Welshman Jack Marshman and Frenchman Christopher Jacquelin clash at CWFC 77.
The contest of Marshman and Jacquelin will headline CWFC 77 and will stream on UFC Fight Pass, with the Welshman keen to impress as one of the best UK middleweights outside of the UFC. Tickets are currently on sale starting at £25 and can be purchased here.
Jack ‘The Hammer’ Marshman (19-5) makes a swift return to competition after a first round submission win over Ali Arish earlier this month in Newport, Wales. The 26-year-old is on a five-fight winning streak, which includes three CWFC wins against highly ranked Bola Omoyele at CWFC 69, former UFC vet Che Mills at CWFC 72 and Ali Arish via guillotine at CWFC 76. Four of his losses have been against highly ranked fighters – most notably, current UFC athlete Scott Askham who is set to fight former CWFC titleholder Jack Hermansson in September.
Marshman, a talented striker has exhibited an improving ground game of late and has yet to be submitted as a professional. Of Marshman’s 16 wins, 11 have come by TKO.
“I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to fight for the CWFC World Title. I believe this fight will prove I am the best middleweight fighter in the UK outside of the UFC,” said Jack Marshman.
Christopher ‘T-Choke’ Jacquelin (8-2) is a submission specialist also riding a five-fight winning streak that includes a win over former CWFC middleweight champion Chris Fields by second round triangle choke last September. The 6’3” Frenchman has seven stoppages in eight career wins, six via submission. Marshman is his toughest challenge to date but Jacquelin has shown himself to be a durable athlete winning two four-man tournaments both under French rules (no strikes on the ground). His last defeat was in March 2015 against Poland’s Maciej Rozanski (8-1) by a third round armbar and Rozanski’s only defeat was against Jack Hermansson last December.
“It will be a great fight. I am extremely motivated for this Title,” Jacquelin said. “The support of my family, my team, my sponsors and all of my fans gives me an additional energy. I wish Jack Marshman good preparation. May the best fighter win!”
Ian Dean, Cage Warriors Matchmaker said, “There are lots of variables in this match-up which make it an intriguing encounter and the winner will be a worthy champion.
“Marshman has shown he deserves a title challenge and although victorious in his last fight, he was disappointed at how it ended on June 4th. He leapt at the opportunity to face Jacquelin who has defeated a former holder of this title.
Dean added, “Jacquelin may not have the same credentials on paper as his Welsh opponent but he has proved that he’s a durable and skillful competitor and ready to face what will be his toughest challenge yet.”
