Matt Zonfrello back in action Friday in Fresno

Fresno, Calif. (Thu, August 10, 2017)– Before Matt Zonfrello returns to action in the main event of 559 Fights 58 on Friday in Fresno, Calif., LIVE on FloCombat, the up-and-coming heavyweight prospect sat down with FightBookMMA.

How did you find MMA to begin with?

I started wrestling in high school, though I didn’t really know what it was. I was just a huge kid — I was like 235 as a freshman. They kind of drafted me onto the team (laughs). In college, I tried to wrestle and do computer science, but it was a bit much. I stopped wrestling, so I needed something to do. I started training kickboxing with my buddy and one thing led to the other and I kept falling into it.

How do you feel about what you’ve accomplished so far?

I’m pretty happy. I’ve done a lot in grappling, and I’m trying to get those same kind of credentials with my striking.

What does your opponent bring to the table?

He hasn’t fought in a while from what I’ve seen online, but he does have a lot of experience, and he looks like a pretty good grappler. I’m really excited.

Does being in the main event add any pressure to your situation?

I’ve fought on big stages before and have done jiu-jitsu in other countries, so it’s not really a big thing for me.

What are your goals in MMA?

I’m hoping to go professional soon. I’m just trying to clean up my mistakes now so it’s not an issue for me when I go pro.
