New Jersey Martial Arts Hall of Fame to honor Paul Carnicella with the ” TRAINER” award
New Jersey (Mon, November 20, 2017)– The New Jersey Martial Arts Hall of Fame is extremely proud of its sixth class of inductees to the New Jersey Martial Arts Hall of Fame. This class will be honored at the sixth dinner gala to be held at The Event Center in iPlay America in Freehold, NJ on December 1, 2017.
On December 1st, Paul Carnicella will be inducted as Trainer.
My Martial Arts background began with Karate and Kickboxing in 1979. I then switched to Boxing in 1989 where shortly after I began to train and then compete in the NJ Golden Gloves. In early 1993 I began my career with the Newark Police Department. Assignments included Newark SWAT, Fugitive Squad. I was then asked to lead the Defensive Tactics Program at the Academy where I still currently teach. During my time I was selected to join a panel of Defensive Tactics Instructors throughout the state to standardize The Defensive Tactics program for the Police Training Division in NJ which regulates Police Recruit training. I was responsible for Training Defensive Tactics to Numerous SWAT teams and Military Special Forces units internationally during my 25 years with the Police Department. While working as a detective in Newark I began studying and competing in RUSSIAN Sambo under Lenny Polykov in 1995. It was in early 2000 I was introduced to Edson Carvalho National Judo and BJJ champion from Brazil and Black Belt under Carlson Gracie Sr. He encouraged me to compete where I won my first world Master’s tournament in Brazil. I then received my Black Belt in 2008 becoming Edson Carvalho’s first American black belt to start as a white belt. I currently hold a second degree awaiting my third. I then opened my own Gym where I trained numerous champions in Mixed Martial Arts Brazilian Jiu -Jitsu Boxing and Kickboxing in both amateur and professional levels Fighters are former Ring of Combat champion and current Bellator fighter Frank Buenafuente. Ring of Combat Champion and Former UFC fighter Mike Massenzio, current UFC fighter Ulka Sasaki , Current Former CFFC champion Chris Birchler Former CFFC champion Plinio Cruz and former Bellator fighter Ryan Contaldi.
