Friday April 15, 2016— Solomon Renfro is on a tear. At just 19 years old he holds two amateur belts at 185 lbs. Based in New York at WNYMMA under the coaching of TJ Sumler, Val Marie, Jeff Dunz, Mike Dub, Erik Herbert, his father Soloman Renfro Sr., Scott Skinner, Corey Webster and Don Lilly. Renfro has an experienced team guiding him on his journey to one day be a champ in some of the largest promotions world-wide.
Renfro began training in martial arts at a young age. Eventually progressing to boxing around 9, and leaving his mark in the Junior Olympics. He also made state for wrestling both years he wrestled in high school, his athleticism is hard to match. With an amateur record of 6-1, he learned from his loss to stay focused on the game plan and not rush things.
“That loss taught me to focus on technique and skill and not to force things. Since that loss I’ve been on a roll.”
Solomon finds the personal accountability of MMA to be the most appealing aspect of the sport.
“What I love about MMA is win, lose or draw it’s all on you. It’s how you train, how you focus you can’t blame anyone but yourself. I like that one on one pressure.”
Every day he is preparing to be the greatest ever. Not over looking his competition but furthering his sites to compete with the best and surpass them. Drawing Inspiration from greats like Jon Jones, Aljamain Sterling, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Conor McGregor and Demitrius Johnson.
“My goal is to be the best UFC champ ever. I train like I’m about to fight ️GSP or Jon Jones, I train to fight the best in the world.”
Renfro has plans of turning pro next year after he turns 20. For now, he continues to travel nationwide to promotions to challenge title holders. His latest fight against a 19-8 Detroit fighter was finished in the second round. Being the outsider is not intimidating for him at all, it seems to motivate him even more. What can fight fans expect when coming out to see him fight?
“Action. From the start to the end, I do not stop I don’t take breaks I keep the pressure on.”
Renfro has an upcoming title fight in Eerie Pennsylvania on May 28th for Prodigy MMA Fighting Championship and is open to appear in any promotion who will have him.
“On May 28th I’m going to go in and take care of business.”
This young man is one to watch. Driven, dedicated and talented we are sure to see great things from him in the years to come.
