Ovince St. Preux and Rafael Cavalcante are going to face off at the scheduled UFC Fight Night event in Uberlandia, Brazil on November 8th.
Calvalcante, the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion has had a hard go of it since losing that title to Dan Henderson in March of 2011. He has managed a meager record of 2-2-1 since that loss. Add in the fact that what would have been a win over Mike Kyle was overturned due to failing a post-fight drug (Stanozolol), the commission changed it to a No Contest. Currently just 1-2 in the UFC (12-5-1 overall) to say “Feijao” needs this win badly is hardly an understatement. He lost his last fight in the Octagon to Ryan Bader in June at UFC 174 earlier this year.
St. Preux, another light heavyweight contender from Strikeforce had a different run of sorts going for him. He was riding a 4 fight win streak with the UFC. Wins over Gian Villante, Cody Donovan, Nikita Krylov and Ryan Jimmo, all impressive victories for the former Tennessee Volunteers football player, had people looking at him closely as a fighter on the rise. He got his chance to main event a UFC Fight Night against Ryan Bader. The fight which took place in Bangor, Maine saw St. Preux lose a 5 round decision to the wrestling stand out.
