Pinnacle Combat continues to Rise with stacked Dubuque Card
Thursday August 13, 2015– Pinnacle Combat held its 20th fighting event in July, but the promoters behind Pinnacle don’t plan to celebrate this little anniversary by resting on their laurels. Instead they’re coming right back with an action packed show in their hometown. Pinnacle XXI: Uprising features some of the top names in the Midwest and the main event features a UFC veteran and a Bellator veteran looking to settle a score.
Pinnacle Lightweight champion and UFC veteran Eric “Little Lee” Wisely (22-9-0) is coming off a big win over Bellator veteran Jared Downing in a fight of the year candidate, and this time around he’ll be defending his strap against another Bellator veteran and Downing’s teammate out of Cedar Rapids, Cliff Wright (9-6-0). Wright is out for vengeance and capturing his first Pinnacle Combat title will be icing on the cake. These two fighters are in the prime of their careers and looking to get back to the sport’s highest level with a couple of signature wins. Wisely is one of the smoothest strikers around but he’ll have his hands full with Wright who throws extremely heavy strikes that can knockout anyone in the 155-pound division.
In the co-main event, University of Dubuque wrestling standout Cole Williams (8-1-0) is back on the hunt for his Pinnacle Combat Welterweight title. Williams hasn’t lost a sanctioned bout since 2009 and he’s been on a true tear since competing on Spike TV’s Bellator Fight Master show. Williams is hoping to make 2015 his best year yet but the very experienced, very dangerous Jon Kennedy (8-10-0) stands in his way. Kennedy has fought some of MMA’s best and brightest and he is eager to add William’s name to his list of conquests inside the cage. Kennedy is a talented submission grappler who will look to catch Williams in submissions off his back once the fight goes to the ground.
Also on the card, former Pinnacle amateur lightweight champion Dalton Grinstead is back in the Pinnacle Cage and looking to burst into the title picture in a new division as he takes on Dominic Martin at 145-pounds. These two amateurs are extremely skilled in all areas of the fight and this should make for some compelling and dramatic action as each fighter looks to stake their claim as a major contender in the featherweight division. This fight features heavy hitters from top to bottom, other fighters featured on the card include Erik Vo, Ryan Truong, Joe Bentalha, Shawn West, Demian Papagni and Jeremy Castro. 20 shows and counting, continues to rise to the top of the Midwestern Mixed Martial Arts scene. Come be a part of the movement at Pinnacle Combat XXI: Uprising.
