Revamped Lion Fight 29 card sees Regian Eersel step into main event at Foxwoods

Thursday May 19, 2016 Lion Fight Promotions is very excited to announce that rising star Regian “The Immortal” Eersel has been tabbed to go toe-to-toe against Jo Nattawut at the upcoming Lion Fight 29 event.

Eersel, a native of Suriname who now fights out of The Netherlands, steps in to replace Armin Pumpanmuang who was forced out of the bout against Nattawut after failing an eye examination. Pumpanmuang had been called upon as a replacement himself to take the spot of fellow Thai Yodpayak Sitsongpeenong who also failed a pre-fight medical test.

The showdown between Eersel (15-4) and Nattawut (56-5-2), which will be contested in the middleweight division, tops the card for Lion Fight 29 taking place on Friday, May 27th at Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

In Eersel, Lion Fight fans will see a competitor who has been making waves across the globe with highlight-reel finishes. Last year alone, Eersel registered two knockouts that put him on the map. He crushed the heavily favored Khalid Bourdif, taking away a second-round TKO via doctor’s stoppage at United Fight Events, and as well when he blasted Wang Anying, again securing a second-round knockout at the WLF World Championships in China.

Eersel’s voyage to the upper ranks of the division began in 2012 when he scored a knockout of Serrano Voorn with a jumping knee at a Push It To The Limit event. Standing 6-foot 2, Eersel uses his height to his advantage particularly with knee strikes as evidenced in crushing verdicts over Mohsin Droui and Randy Momoh.

A man of few words, Eersel prefers to let the results speak for him.

“Come watch the fight. I am not a talker. I will fight and give you a great show,” he said.

Nattawut, Lion Fight’s super welterweight champion, is coming off a successful title defense at Lion Fight 28 when he topped Cedric Manhoef via unanimous decision.

Another lineup change sees surging prospect Diego “The Terror” Llamas (7-2) join the fray to face PJ Sweda (1-0) in a welterweight clash that will be the opener on AXS TV Fights. Llamas replaces Brian Del Rosario who is sidelined by a hand injury.

Llamas is a teammate of Lion Fight sensation and Inside MMA Rising Star award-winner Gaston Bolanos with the CSA Team in Dublin, California. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Llamas will be making his Lion Fight debut after showcasing his speed and aggression in such events as WCK Muay Thai and in Supreme Kombat Challenge where he put together a dominating performance with a stoppage victory over Carlos Zepeda. The bout will be Sweda’s second under the Lion Fight banner. At Lion Fight 24, he registered a second-round TKO via doctor’s stoppage over Danny Millet.
