18 October, 2016 – ROAD Fighting Championship held a press conference today in Seoul, South Korea. Korean actor Kim Bo-Sung, known for his roles in the Two Cops series, Come Tomorrow, and of course his hilarious “Euri!” catchphrase, has turned his focus to preparing for a live action role – Mixed Martial Arts.
At the incredible age of 50, Kim Bo-Sung will be making his professional fighting debut in ROAD Fighting Championship on December 10, 2016 in Seoul, South Korea. He has already shorn his trademark long bouffant and donated the locks to children with cancer. In fact, his fight money will all go to this charity, as will the profits from all ticket sales under ROAD FC’s “Love Sharing Project”.
At today’s press conference in Seoul, Kim Bo-Sung’s opponent was announced. Kondo Tetsuo, who is a ripe 48 years old, will take on Kim as his next opponent. Kondo has a record of 3-14 and is the Chairman of MMA promotion Wardog ACF, Even while he’s got a lot racked up in the loss column, his experience will be a lot for Kim to contend with. However, Kim feels his years of boxing training and his full commitment to this fight will give him what he needs to defeat Kondo.
Kim Bo-Sung stated:
“He seems a little older than I expected. But I don’t mind taking on a more experienced fighter.”
Kondo Tetsuo responded:
“I heard you’re a celebrity, take off your sunglasses if you’re serious about fighting.”
And Kim Bo-Sung did! Whatever the outcome between these two wizened action gentlemen, the children with cancer who will be receiving the charity from this event will be the winners. ROAD FC is committed to community outreach, especially all children in need.
ROAD FC Bantamweight Championship
A title match for the ROAD FC Bantamweight belt, which was vacated by Lee Yun-Jun due to sudden illness, will see superstar Kim Soo-Chul (14-5-1, Team Force) face super prodigy Kim Min-Woo (8-1, MMA Story).
Kim Soo-Chul is one of the hottest success stories of Korean MMA. At 20 years old he held the first ONE Championship Bantamweight belt, and after showing a brilliant game to Bibiano Fernandes which resulted in a 5-round decision loss, Kim has gone undefeated across eight matches. All of his opponents have been UFC veterans and international top fighters such as Taiyo Nakahara, Maike Linhares, and Marcus Brimage.
Kim Min-Woo has grown up almost exclusively in ROAD FC. His sole loss was a very close majority decision. Since then, he ran over Japanese veteran Shoko Sato, and knocked out Shooto Champ Yuta Nezu in just 15 seconds. Kim Min-Woo will be the third MMA Story proponent to fight for a ROAD FC title; his coach is Middleweight Champion Cha Jung-Hwa, and his teammate Choi Mu-Gyeom is the thrice defending Featherweight Champ.
The match was expected to be announced for ROAD FC on 10 December, however Kim Min-Woo has undergone a minor surgery which won’t allow him to fully train for this date. The Bantamweight Title match will be postponed. Kim Soo-Chul will still appear on the 10 December ROAD FC card against an opponent to be announced shortly.
ROAD FC Lightweight Championship
At the top of the card, ROAD FC Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol (20-10, Apgujeong Gym) will take on his second title challenger, Sasaki Shinji (17-9-3, Burst).
The outspoken Kwon is gaining national attention as the front-runner in a currently airing reality game show “Society”, in which his tactical, intelligent traits are out in force.
Sasaki defeated Bruno Miranda at Xiaomi ROAD FC 032 to earn his right as challenger. He rocked Miranda in the opening stanza then spent a grueling two rounds dominating on the ground before getting the submission victory.
Kwon’s brashness and Sasaki’s respectfulness indeed reveal a clash of personalities, and their actions in the ROAD FC cage for the Lightweight title should be an all out thriller.
Tickets for ROAD FC on 10 December are now on sale. All profits will be donated to pediatric cancer charity through the ROAD FC “Love Sharing Project”.
Upcoming event: Xiaomi ROAD FC 034 in China
Prior to the ROAD FC event on 10, December, Xiaomi ROAD FC 034 will take place on 19 November in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China. Featured will be ROAD FC Featherweight Champion Choi Mu-Gyeom facing challenger Murat Kazgan, and the China Trials for the 2017 ROAD FC $1 Million 70kg Tournament.
