At the age of 41, Rowdy is making it as a pro 145 pounder in the popular Utah MMA promotion SteelFist Fight Night.
With a record of 1-0 going into this fight he is still undefeated. He walked out to a video of his highlights voiced by himself, speaking on his journey and his belief in himself. It’s been a long road involving a history of street fights and eventually an invite to train in Idaho.
In 2007 he started at Combat Fitness in Boise Idaho, now fighting with One Hit MMA in Utah. He called out Anthony Pagliaro and Anthony accepted. Rowdy admits he did so to make a few more bucks.
So anything you want to say to your division? Any call outs who’s next?
“Not looking to call anyone else out. I called out my last two opponents for a bigger pay check, cause I’m a pro it’s what I do. I have signed to fight Luke Oliver for Steel Fist on March 11,2016” (Luke has a record of 2-5.)
So how do you feel about your fight tonight?
“Fight went good! Won it in the first round with no damage”
Do you have anything to say to the people who think those shots came after the stoppage by the ref?
“The fights the fight. No, no I have nothing to say to them I was giving him the option, I had the short choke I put my arm up to get the other choke he didn’t try to push my arm away or anything. Anyone who knows MMA knows. I wanted to let go to finish with strikes. Every single guy I fight wants to take me to the ground, I wanted to show them that I can strike”
The end of the fight was debated in the crowd as well as with some officials. Some commenting on a disqualification and that the punches came late.
He went on to explain that he felt no tap and the ref should have done something if there was a tap or a verbal tap. None the less it was a good fight and I’m sure his next fights will have us all talking again. Any press is good press right?
