To continue a night filled with finishes Tracy Hardy took down Justin Vilapando in the very first round. Justin landed some solid shots but overall Hardy’s grappling prevailed. This quick fight had several sub attempts including a guillotine, triangle and eventually a deep rear naked choke that Vilapando tapped to.
Stepping into the cage next was super heavy weights Ranu Meah and Brandon Grundy. After a few complaints to the Ref over legality of some knees and kicks it was obvious this would be first fight of the night to go the distance. Meah fighting out of One Hit MMA for the decision after what seemed like a frustrating fight at least to the sold out crowd in attendance.
“Well I was cool with it cause it was my first but I heard the crowd and I wanted to get them into it and not boo us! But as for Brandon, there was no hate, I was telling him to just throw so we could dogfight! Don’t know what was up with him but I stood there for him! I like to counter punch a lot but he was moving fast backwards!!! I kept thinking he would explode any time but that never happened! I like to watch punches and react cause when I run in too much I tend to get caught hard! I’d like to give a mad shoutout to Aldo for putting up with and encouraging me cause at times my self-esteem can run low! J-Rod, dude will not back down or let you! Aaron Horne, My boy Ben Moa, Jarrett Kelton,Jordan And Crystal Smith. Thoughts guys, I fought them tooth and nail cause I am so lazy!!! Thank you all for pushing as far as you have!!! You all were right and I will try to get in better condition! My whole Onehit family, I love you guys and thank you for your help!”
Stepping into the cage next on short notice (3 days to be exact) was 130 Ammy Lauren Chidester who got a win via Rear Naked Choke over Alysa Westergard.
Alonzo Salas fighting out of The Garage MMA and cornered by David Castillo finished Morgan Ybarra advancing his record to 3-0 as an ammy. This fight was short and a brawl.
In a fight scheduled at heavy weight Josh Stanley was left with no opponent after Omar Ramirez showed to weigh ins, and skipped showing up to fight. Stanley took the mic to call out Ramirez total lack of respect and professionalism as well as to call out all heavy weights in Utah.
Randy Burton the current 145 ammy champ fighting out of Eastman Fitness, defended his belt against Shayne Bonner. The first round was a battle on the ground with Bonner getting the best of the scrambles. In the last moments of round one Burton was taking some heavy shots with Bonner taking his back and attempting a Rear naked choke.
Round two had Burton throwing a spinning back kick, solid take down defense against Bonner who has great wrestling. Randy controlled the ground game with a couple perfect sprawls and eventually sunk in a deep triangle choke to finish a tough opponent. A great battle between two talented Ammys.
How did you feel about your performance? Anything you want to adjust in training? Any thoughts on going pro yet?
“I feel like I could have used my hands a ton more…I am happy I caught him with a leg triangle…I new he was a state wrestler so the ground is not where I wanted to be…but I ended it with my favor BJJ move believe it or not I’m good with someone in my gaurd…no I’m not going pro yet. I’m very comfortable off my back”
You have come such a long way, what does another win feel like?
“It feels good knowing I have an unpredictable way of finishing the fight…I have a TKO, 2 submits by triangle, 1KO and a 5 round unanimous so that’s a good resume I feel “
Anything that surprised you with this fight?
“How I was able to defend the rear naked choke and finish the first round after him dropping some big shots in full mount”
The crowd got their moneys worth when 125 lb Bridgette Nielson (four 7 training center) fought Danielle Donaldson (team Victory MMA). Both tough ladies with solid chins great striking and heavy kicks. It went all the way to a split decision. Bridgette won the 125 ammy belt in an amazing display of skill and determination. She is a great role model to young girls and adults alike as she has not let being deaf detour her from training and fighting. Her opponent equally as tough and talented. It was an amazing bout. Many heavy shots landed and both left battered and bloodied.
Wade Martinson ️vs Jud Marshall was a 155 pro bout. After exchanging a few shots standing and a well landed knee in the clinch it went to the ground. Where Jud Marshall got Wades back and sunk in a Rear naked choke to finish the fight.
A local fan favorite Rowdy “the senior citizen” Akers (one Hit MMA) took on Jerry Shapiro, in a last moment opponent change. On two weeks notice Shapiro took it to the always tough Akers. After a few solid shots landed Akers was slammed to the mat and after a scramble a deep triangle choke put Rowdy to sleep. NO TAP (those UFC fighters aren’t only ones who are tough as nails).
In the co-main event 170 lb ammy title fight Black Label MMA sponsored fighter Danny Chamberlain took on Mike O’laskey. O’laskey got a dominate finish 1:14 into first round. Advancing his record to 6-2. As If that win wasn’t enough he then dropped to one knee and asked his beautiful girlfriend to be his wife. She said yes scoring him his second win of the evening. Congrats to them!!
In a highly anticipated main event former Steel Fist 170 champ Tallon Torres challenged current champ Jason South for the belt. Two vets of the sport gave the crowd a Clinic in great Jiu jitsu. South rocked Torres with a knee to the body. Once on the ground Torres defended several sub attempts with beautiful transitions by both. Eventually South got a calf crusher which made Torres tap.
It was a great night of fights! Only complaint? I should have gotten there earlier to avoid parking a mile away! Congrats to all fighters and SteelFist Fight Night for another successful exciting event!
