SteelFist Fight Night: “CONQUER” Wrap up
Sunday January 10, 2016— SteelFist Fight Night: “Conquer” took place at the Legacy Event Center on Saturday January 9, 2016. This marks SteelFist Fight first event in 2016. Below you will find the recap and photographs of the event.
The evening was Composed of Ammy and pro fighters including 2 title fights. Pretty much every weight class was on display from 125 up to 205.
First up was the Ammys. With some impressive fights coming from:
Tyler Kinross with finish by rear naked choke in the first round.
Rick Salazaar and Elias Landau got into a brawl both swinging for the fences. It was a wild fight that ended with a ko by Salazaar.
Curt Leifson finished Peter Gonzalez in :18 with a flurry of shots, a knock down and finish by TKO.
Freddie Delgado took a win against Jason Hammett by utilizing aggressive stand up. It went a full round and was stopped with a wobbly and disoriented Hammett on his stool in between rounds. Delgado was making his debut and although he withstood some damage, had an impressive fight.
Adam Easley and Ului Pupunu put on a 3 round battle with some great work on the ground. Pupunu has great head movement and some solid striking. Unfortunately for him Easleys ground game was too much and he attempted many subs. The decision was unanimous for Easley.
Brandon Rease came with some huge slams. Attempting to pass guard by jumping over Thomas’ legs. It was a back and forth battle mostly on the ground. Ending with Rease getting his hand raised by split decision.
The ladies came to dance. Kaytlin Neil landing some solid kicks and combos on Brittany Theide. Not to be out done Britany put up a great fight landing some knees and punches to the body. Ultimately Kaytlin sinks in a deep Rear Naked choke and finishes it in the second.
At 155 Kyle Frazier and Beau Horrocks put on a great fight. Frazier with some great take downs end of round 1 Frazier drops Harrocks but he was saved by the bell. After spinning back fists thrown by Horrocks, solid leg kicks and great grappling the fight ends by Frazier sinking in an arm triangle.
The event then moved into the pro divisions. They delivered exciting fights and the stand outs were:
Trevor cook ️vs Pedro Artal, both heavy-handed at 165 lbs. Pedro had great take downs and his ground and pound including some vicious elbows got him the win. This was his last fight. Leaving on a win and calling it a career.
Up next was Smmack Combat management fighter Anthony Pagliaro ️vs Rowdy Akers at 145. Which was competitive with it ending on the ground. Rowdy sunk in a rear naked choke, there was some confusion and controversy whether the ref had called an end to the fight before strikes were landed. After Rowdy gets up he yells at Anthony “where’s your blue belt!?” Talking to Rowdy after the fight he said he let go to finish by strikes, adding If there was any confusion the responsibility lays in the refs hands. Pagliaro was down after the fight and checked out by ring side doctor. Tape was reviewed and an hour later the finish was still a hot topic among officials and fans alike.
Westin Wilson ️vs Dan Berry was brutal. Some heavy elbows landed by Wilson opened up Berry. Berry gets the take down finds an arm and finishes the fight by arm bar in the first round.
Thiago Alves put on a clinic . Dominating Randy Yellowhair who was cornered by Court McGee. Alves wins by second round arm bar.
In the main event at 205 pounds we had Eric Whalin ️vs Ben Fuimano. The crowd reacted to the ref stoppage with boos, but it was clear Ben was not defending himself. Although not knocked out it was a good stoppage. Ben was Visibly upset with the outcome. This win advanced Whalen to a 9-3-0 record. And Ben to a 15-10-1 record.
All in all what I took away from the packed night of fights was that Steel Fist has some stand out fighters that are Definitely worth checking out. Stay tuned to FightBookMMA.com for an announcement on their March 11, 2016 card, Which will be held in Salt Lake City to a 21 and up crowd.
