Update: Conor McGregor pens bout agreement, rematches Dustin Poirier at UFC 257

Former two-weight world champion, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor has according to reports, inked his UFC 257 bout agreement to re-run his 2014 featherweight clash with former interim champion, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ in a lightweight headliner on January 23rd. 

Reports, began to circulate last week that Poirier and McGregor had both agreed to rematch on January 23rd. – with differing corroborations detailing how Poirier had penned his bout agreement, McGregor had yet to do so. According to a report from Oscar Willis from The Mac Life this afternoon, McGregor has now followed suit and put pen to paper on the contract. 

The Straight Blast Gym trainee is currently in Albufeira, Portugal, alongside his family and striking standout, Cian Cowley where he continues preparations for the possible ‘Fight Island’ excursion. Renowned head coach, John Kavanagh and McGregor’s longtime striking mentor, Owen Roddy recently travelled to Portugal to boot.

For Poirier, the Lafayette native is also slated to return to Coconut Creek, Florida soon to begin his training camp at his home base, American Top Team.

With the pair hoping to earn another crack as undisputed UFC lightweight gold, the two accomplished strikers also look to make it two wins in two since their respective submission defeats to common-foe, Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov.

Poirier most recently headlined UFC Vegas 4 in June, where he took home an exciting back-and-forth unanimous decision win over the then-streaking, Dan ‘The Hangman’ Hooker. 

For 32-year-old Dubliner, McGregor, the sharp counter-striker took out one-time lightweight title challenger, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in just forty-seconds in the main event of UFC 246 in January of this year, in a welterweight headliner.
