The Best Move For The Women’s Bantamweight Division

Sunday March 6, 2016 With Miesha Tate pulling out a victory at UFC 196, Ronda Rousey rematch seems m to be on everyone’s mind. The question of a trilogy fight between the new UFC Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey seems like a no brainier, but is it the right move for the division?

One of the best things that could have happened to the division was the changing of the guard at UFC 193 where MMA fans saw Holly Holm take out Rousey to become the 2nd champ in the division’s history. Now that Tate has the title a match between the former Ultimate Fighter coaches seems like an easy booking for everyone, with an obvious outcome. But if the UFC wants to make the division more exciting and draw a bigger crowd, they need to take advantage of the current standings. While there is no doubt Rousey should get a title shot, there is also an argument to be made for Holm to get an immediate rematch. After all, the score cards seems to have her ahead going into the 5th round of the Co-Main event.
.

So how would the UFC use this to make the women’s bantamweight division more exciting? Put the division center stage at an upcoming UFC PPV with Miesha Tate defending her title against “Alfa” Cat Zingano, while Ronda Rousey attempts to avenge her loss to Holly Holm setting up yet another Women’s Bantamweight title fight. If at that point it ends up being Tate/Rousey III, MMA fans might be more inclined to watch because the fight will have been warranted.
