Wednesday September 16, 2015– Veteran of the sport and proud father of two, Nick “The Ghost” Gonzalez is preparing for his Bellator 143 fight vs Ryan Couture. Fighting as a featherweight he is stepping up to lightweight for this bout. Although an underdog coming into this, it’s hard to understand why.
He’s a fighter inside the cage and outside of it. Battling his own demons over the years after a near death car accident last year, Nick came to terms that his life needed a change and his career needed the focus it deserved.
With his experience in many promotions such as Strikeforce and Legacy Fighting Championship, his ego got the best of him. Nick lost focus and stopped training as hard, resulting in some tough losses. Which in turn lead him to drink more.
Newly sober, The Ghost, named for his movements inside the cage, is ironically haunted by the “what ifs” in his career. Which lead to a change in camps and renewed faith in himself. In the past he has seen his sparring partners progress to the main stage in the UFC. It’s easy to see that is where he deserves to be.
He is charismatic as they come. Always speaking openly about his life. You can see the smile on his face when he talks about fighting.
At 34, his record is now 19-12. What that record doesn’t show is the wars he has had. Gonzalez ️vs Garcia was nominated for fight of the year.
Nick has KO power, ground game from years of wrestling, as well as some gnarly kicks. Beyond anything physical he has heart, determination and is more motivated than ever.
As a proud Texan he hopes to help the sport of MMA grow locally. I’m sure all of Texas is behind him as well as this girl in California.
