Former UFC welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves makes his anticipated return to the Octagon to face Jordan Mein at UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz on January 31, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alves who last fought at UFC on Fox: Werdum vs. Browne in April 2014 looked strong in his win over Seth Baczynski via decision. Alves has had his named linked to many fan friendly fights against names like, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Matt Brown and his opponents on January 31st Jordan Mein who Alves was supposed to face at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. dos Anjos in August. Alves has competed in 18 fights under the UFC banner, fighting his way to a record of 12-6 inside the Octagon (20-9 overall).

Former Strikforce combatant and the owner of a 2 fight UFC win streak is hoping to further advance his career with a win over crowd favorite Thiago Alves. Impressive wins over the likes of Dan Miller and Mike Kyle (who replaced Brandon Thatch, who was replacing Alves) is making a name for himself as a must watch competitor. Mein who is just 25 years old have already seen 38 fights in his MMA career earning a record of 29-9 (3-1 in the UFC).
